Build on your existing carpentry skills while earning a wage. This advanced apprenticeship develops the technical expertise, leadership skills, and industry knowledge needed to take on more complex site carpentry projects and progress your career in construction.
Course Overview
The Site Carpentry Apprenticeship is designed for learners who have already completed a Level 2 Carpentry and Joinery Apprenticeship and are ready to develop their skills to an advanced level. Combining paid employment with technical training, you'll work alongside experienced tradespeople while attending College one day a week to deepen your knowledge and prepare for greater responsibility on site.
At Weston College, you'll train in industry-standard facilities at our South West Skills Campus and become part of our Construction Career Excellence Hub. You'll benefit from employer networking, site visits, masterclasses, and strong links with leading construction companies, helping you build valuable industry connections and prepare for long-term career success.
What will I study?
You'll build advanced practical skills and technical knowledge in areas including:
• Advanced site carpentry and joinery techniques • Complex roofing geometry • Site operations and project planning • Safe working practices and construction legislation • Working at height and fall protection systems • Safe use and maintenance of hand and power tools • Interpreting technical drawings and specifications • Estimating materials and resources • Measuring, marking out, fitting, cutting, and finishing timber • Advanced woodworking joints • Installing floor joists and timber flooring systems • Maintaining and repairing structural and non-structural timber components • Professional communication and effective teamwork
How will I be assessed?
Assessment includes:
• Practical skills tests • Written assignments • Portfolio of evidence • Online multiple-choice assessments • End-point assessment comprising:
- Knowledge assessment
- Practical skills assessment

Entry Requirements
You'll need:
• A completed Level 2 Carpentry and Joinery Apprenticeship • Relevant employment within the industry (Weston College can help you find a suitable employer)

• Advanced Site Carpenter • Construction Site Manager • Self-employment within the construction industry • Higher education, including the HNC in Construction and the Built Environment • Eligibility to apply for the Gold Advanced Craft CSCS Card for major construction projects
