Course Overview
The Civil Engineering Senior Technician Apprenticeship is designed for those looking to build a successful career in civil engineering while gaining valuable workplace experience. Combining paid employment with higher-level technical training, this apprenticeship develops the specialist skills required to support the planning, design, construction, maintenance, and management of major infrastructure projects.
You will spend the majority of your apprenticeship working for your employer, applying your learning to real engineering projects while attending Weston College to develop your technical knowledge. Guided by experienced tutors with extensive industry expertise, you will explore the scientific and engineering principles that underpin modern civil engineering and develop the confidence to contribute to complex engineering solutions.
Based at Weston College's South West Skills Campus, you will benefit from industry-standard engineering facilities and specialist teaching environments designed to support higher-level technical learning. As a Weston College apprentice, you will also become part of our Engineering Career Excellence Hub, providing opportunities to network with employers, attend industry events, hear from guest speakers, and build valuable professional connections throughout your apprenticeship.
Throughout the programme, you will develop both your technical expertise and your leadership abilities, preparing you to supervise projects, coordinate engineering activities, and contribute to the successful delivery of infrastructure developments across a wide range of sectors.
What will I study?
You will develop the advanced technical and professional skills required to work as a Civil Engineering Senior Technician.

Throughout the apprenticeship, you will apply your learning directly within your workplace, gaining valuable experience across live engineering projects.
How will I be assessed?
Assessment takes place throughout the apprenticeship and concludes with an independent End-Point Assessment.
The End-Point Assessment will test the knowledge, skills, and behaviours required for the role and is undertaken once you, your employer, and Weston College agree that you are ready.
You will also complete regular progress reviews and workplace assessments throughout the programme to support your development.

Entry Requirements
Typical entry requirements include:
• Five GCSEs, including English, maths, and a science subject
OR
• A relevant Level 2 Apprenticeship
You must also:
• Be employed in a relevant civil engineering role • Be supported by your employer to complete the apprenticeship
Individual employers may set additional entry requirements depending on the nature of the role.
