Fast, Funded Training for Employers

Fast, funded training to strengthen your workforce – delivered by Weston College

Apprenticeship Units are a new, flexible way to upskill your workforce quickly – and Weston College has successfully met the national quality requirements to deliver them from April 2026.

Designed for employers who need skills now, Apprenticeship Units provide short, targeted training in priority skill areas, without the time or cost commitment of a full apprenticeship.

If your business is facing skills shortages, technological change or rapid growth, Apprenticeship Units offer a practical, fully funded solution.

What are Apprenticeship Units?

Apprenticeship Units are bite sized programmes developed from full apprenticeship standards. Each unit focuses on a specific occupational skill, giving your staff the expertise they need to perform effectively and confidently in their role.

Training is designed to be applied immediately in the workplace, delivering measurable impact in weeks rather than years.

They are ideal for employers looking to:

  • Fill urgent skills gaps
  • Respond to new technologies or regulations
  • Upskill experienced staff without long periods away from the job
  • Strengthen productivity, quality and compliance

Why choose Apprenticeship Units?

Duration: 1 to 16 weeks
Training time: 30 to 140 hours
Minimal time away from work, maximum impact on performance.

Covers high demand areas including AI, engineering, green technologies and construction
Training is shaped around real workplace activity, not classroom theory.

Assessed through a practical skills test
No full end point assessment, reducing disruption and admin.

Available for employed learners aged 19+
Ideal for existing staff at all levels who need targeted upskilling.

Apprenticeship Units are fully funded and accessible to employers of all sizes, making them one of the most cost effective workforce development options available.

Training is fully funded via the Growth and Skills Levy

Units can be paid for using your existing levy funds
If levy funds are exhausted, 95% of training costs are still funded
This means you can develop critical skills with little or no direct cost to your business.

The government has confirmed the first eight apprenticeship unit areas:

AI Leadership
Strategy, adoption, procurement and governance

More units will be introduced as employer demand grows. Weston College can deliver all of the above apart from 5 & 8 currently.

Halo workplace logo

Our workplace champions the right of staff to embrace all Afro-hairstyles. We acknowledge that Afro-textured hair is an important part of our Black employees’ racial, ethnic, cultural, and religious identities, and requires specific styling for hair health and maintenance. We celebrate Afro-textured hair worn in all styles including, but not limited to, afros, locs, twists, braids, cornrows, fades, hair straightened through the application of heat or chemicals, weaves, wigs, headscarves, and wraps. In this workplace, we recognise and celebrate our colleagues’ identities. We are a community built on an ethos of equality and respect where hair texture and style have no bearing on an employee's ability to succeed.
