- Morning setup - getting the workshop ready, checking tools / equipment and looking at the day's jobs
- Vehicle servicing - helping with oil and filter changes, air filters, spark plugs, fluid checks, and basic inspections
- Brakes and tyres - removing / refitting wheels, checking brake components, changing tyres and checking pressures
- Basic mechanical repairs - replacing things like bulbs, batteries, wiper blades, belts, hoses or other straightforward components.
- Diagnostics - learning to use diagnostic equipment, reading fault codes and helping the mechanic investigate problems
- Vehicle inspections - checking lights, tyres, fluid levels, suspension, steering and other components for faults or wear
- MOT preparation - preparing vehicles for MOTs and fixing issues that could cause a failure. You might also observe MOT testing
- Using workshop equipment - learning safe use of ramps, jacks, tyre machines, wheel balancers, diagnostic scanners and hand / power tools

- Parts and stock - helping identify parts, checking deliveries and fetching parts from suppliers
- Customer-related work - help explain simple repairs to customers or speak with them when collecting / returning vehicles
- Learning from experienced mechanics - probably the most important part. You'll be watching, asking questions, practicing jobs and gradually being trusted with more responsibility
