Weston College’s Academy of Sport recognises the abilities and efforts of our top athletes and aims to support them to achieve their potential.
As a member of a sports academy, you'll have the opportunity to combine your academic studies with high-level sporting provision, which will allow you to fully immerse yourself as a student athlete.
Our Academy of Sport prides itself on its athlete-centred approach, which will enable you to develop your sporting performance in a professionally-structured environment. As part of an academy you will have access to elite coaching, Hudl sports analysis, and bespoke strength and conditioning programmes.
Trials for our sports academies are held in April, July and September, and we offer high-quality provision in the following sports:
There is also the opportunity for the most gifted athletes at the College to receive a bursary of up to £500 that you could put towards training fees, transport, kit and further sports development.
As well as this, we offer our academy athletes:
- Bespoke strength and conditioning programmes and training
- Sport psychology support
- Flexibility, speed, agility and quickness training
- Nutritional support and dietary advice
- Pre and rehab programmes, and sports therapy support
- Hudl sports analysis
Academy athletes are chosen for this programme after demonstrating their ability to perform at an elite level, in their chosen sport. Eligibility for the programme is decided by a selection process conducted by the Academy of Sport team.
At the Academy of Sport we understand the importance of creating pathways for our athletes. We have developed a number of partnerships that will enable you to progress into semi-professional and professional sport. This can be in both a playing and non-playing capacity, as it provides you with a number of employability opportunities.
Current partnerships include:
- Weston Football Club
- Bristol Rugby
- North Somerset Netball Academy
- Clevedon Royals Netball Club
We work with local and regional organisations to provide you with volunteering opportunities that will help develop your employability skills.
Volunteering will help you to develop the skills you have learnt by enabling you to apply them in the workplace - which we believe will make you more likely to be highly employable.
