Course Overview
The Food & Beverage Apprenticeship is the perfect opportunity to begin a rewarding career in hospitality. Combining paid employment with specialist college training, you'll gain valuable experience delivering excellent customer service while developing the professional skills employers look for across the hospitality industry.
Working as part of a hospitality team, you'll learn how to create memorable customer experiences while supporting the day-to-day running of restaurants, hotels, cafés, bars, conference venues, and other hospitality businesses. Throughout your apprenticeship, you'll develop confidence working with customers, serving food and drinks, maintaining high service standards, and supporting colleagues during busy service periods.
You will be supported by experienced hospitality professionals who understand the fast-paced nature of the industry and will help you develop both your technical abilities and your confidence. As a member of Weston College's Hospitality & Catering Career Excellence Hub, you'll benefit from employer partnerships, guest speakers, masterclasses, networking opportunities, and industry experiences that will prepare you for long-term success within hospitality.
This apprenticeship provides an excellent foundation for a career in food and beverage service while opening the door to a wide variety of specialist hospitality roles.
What will I study?
Throughout the apprenticeship, you will develop the knowledge, skills, and professional behaviours required to deliver outstanding customer service within hospitality settings.
Topics include:
• Food and beverage service • Customer service excellence • Hospitality industry knowledge • Professional communication • Teamwork and collaboration • Food safety and hygiene • Food and drink product knowledge • Understanding customer needs • Personal presentation and professionalism • Working in busy hospitality environments • Problem-solving and using initiative • Hospitality operations and service standards
Depending on your employer, you may also gain experience in specialist areas such as:
• Bar service • Barista skills • Reception and guest services • Conference and banqueting • Reservations • Housekeeping • Concierge services • Food preparation
How will I be assessed?
Assessment takes place throughout the apprenticeship and concludes with an End-Point Assessment.
Assessment includes:
• Portfolio of evidence • Workplace observations • Regular progress reviews • End-Point Assessment
Your portfolio will demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and behaviours you have developed while working in your hospitality role.

Entry Requirements
• A minimum of five GCSEs at grades 9–2, including at least two GCSEs at Grade 4 (including English and/or maths)
OR
• A relevant Level 1 qualification
You must also:
• Be employed in a relevant hospitality role • Be committed to completing both workplace and college-based learning
