Course Overview

The Scaffolder Apprenticeship offers the opportunity to earn a wage while developing the practical skills and industry knowledge required for a successful career in scaffolding.

Delivered in partnership with Simian, a leading provider of scaffolding and access training, this apprenticeship combines workplace experience with classroom learning. You'll be taught by experienced industry professionals and gain a thorough understanding of scaffolding principles, structural safety, regulations, and best practice, while applying your skills in real construction environments.

Safety is at the heart of the programme. Throughout your apprenticeship, you'll develop the knowledge and confidence to work safely at height while learning the technical skills required to erect, inspect, and dismantle a wide range of scaffolding systems.

As part of Weston College's Construction Career Excellence Hub, you'll benefit from employer networking, industry visits, and opportunities to build connections with major construction companies.

What will I study?

You'll develop practical skills and technical knowledge in areas including:

• Handling, stacking, servicing, and inspecting scaffolding materials
• Selecting and assembling common access and specialist scaffolding systems
• Health and safety legislation and safe working practices
• Independent scaffolds
• Birdcage scaffolds
• Tower scaffolds
• Cantilever scaffolds
• Gantry scaffolds
• Roof scaffolds
• Manual handling techniques
• Fall protection equipment and working at height

You'll also develop wider industry skills, including:

• Interpreting technical drawings
• Estimating materials and resources
• Construction methods and building elements
• Maths and English (where required)
• Personal organisation and study skills

How will I be assessed?

Assessment includes:

• Ongoing formative assessments throughout the apprenticeship
• End-point assessment consisting of:

  • Practical assessment
  • Written and/or multiple-choice tests

Entry Requirements

You'll need:

• A minimum of five GCSEs at grades 9–2, including at least two at grade 4, or a relevant Level 1 qualification

You will also need to be employed within the industry, although Weston College can support you in finding a suitable employer.
