First Cut: Carpentry Foundations for Adults
Thinking about getting into carpentry? Want to tackle DIY properly (and not with YouTube panic pauses every 30 seconds)? Or planning to progress onto our Level 2 Site Carpentry Diploma in September? This free 7-week daytime course (Thursdays) is designed to give you the core skills and confidence to get started.
What will I learn?
You’ll learn the essential foundations of woodworking, including:
- Measuring and marking out
- Sawing and planning
- Chiselling and joint construction
- Safe and correct use of hand tools
- Turning drawings into real, solid work
- Health and Safety Basics
You’ll put these skills into practice by completing a hands-on project, we provide all tools and materials. You just bring the commitment and enthusiasm (tea-drinking ability optional but encouraged).
How and where is this course taught?
The course is taught in our industry-standard workshops at our South West Skills campus, led by experienced professionals. It's designed to be practical, supportive, and enjoyable. No pressure, no prior experience needed, just a genuine introduction to carpentry.
