Beyond the Doors

Beyond the Doors is a one-week development programme designed as a natural progression from Door Security / Door Supervisor training. It helps learners build the wider knowledge, awareness and confidence required to work safely, professionally and responsibly within security and other public-facing environments.

Working on the doors is about much more than managing access. Security professionals are often among the first to notice changes in behaviour, emerging risks, vulnerability, distress, or suspicious activity. This programme looks beyond the physical entrance, providing learners with the awareness and understanding needed to make informed decisions and respond appropriately in real-life situations.

Beyond the Doors equips learners with the knowledge to recognise potential concerns, respond professionally within their role, and understand when and how to seek further support or escalate issues through the correct channels.

The programme is designed to develop security professionals who are more aware, more informed, and better prepared for what lies beyond the door.

What will I study?

The course combines three nationally recognised qualifications:

Level 1 Award in Cyber Security

Learners will develop an understanding of common cyber threats and how they can affect individuals, businesses, venues and security operations.

Level 1 Award in Mental Health Awareness

This qualification is not intended to make security professionals mental health specialists. Instead, it provides learners with the awareness to recognise when someone may be experiencing difficulties and how to respond appropriately, safely and professionally.

Entry Level 3 Award in Prevent Duty Awareness

Learners will gain an understanding of Prevent Duty principles and the role they play in supporting safeguarding and community safety. ##Course Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the programme, learners will:

  • Increase their awareness of cyber security threats and safe digital practices.
  • Develop a better understanding of mental health and the challenges faced by vulnerable individuals.
  • Gain greater confidence in recognising situations where someone may require support.
  • Understand Prevent Duty principles and the importance of safeguarding.
  • Improve their understanding of professional boundaries, reporting procedures and escalation processes.
  • Strengthen their ability to identify risks beyond the immediate security function.
  • Enhance their communication, judgement and situational awareness skills.
  • Achieve three additional qualifications that complement existing security training and improve employability.

Who Is This Course For?

Beyond the Doors is ideal for individuals who have completed, or are progressing from, a Door Supervisor or Door Security qualification and wish to broaden their skills, knowledge and employment opportunities.

The programme is particularly relevant for those working in:

  • Licensed premises and the night-time economy
