Maintenance/ Installation Electrician (Apprenticeship Level 2)

Standard overview:

Electricians install, maintain and repair electrical systems in industrial, commercial and domestic environments. Electricians might work in both indoor and outdoor settings. Electrical equipment and systems may include switchboards, motors, cables, fuses, thermal relays, fault current protection switches, heating, lighting, air conditioning and metering equipment as well as crime and fire alarm systems and renewable energy technologies.

Entry requirements

You should have at least 5 GCSEs at grade 4/C or above including English, maths and science or a Level 2 electrical qualification. You will also be assessed to ensure you have the ability to complete the English and maths qualifications at Level 2.

Progression:

On completion and achievement of the standard, progression routes will be provided and discussed with the individual to enable them to make informed choices about their continuous professional development. This could include further inspection and testing qualifications, for example. Successful completion will make the apprentice eligible for application for professional registration as EngTech.

Functional skills

Apprentices will be required to have, or achieve, Level 2 English and maths prior to completion of their apprenticeship. If this has already been achieved, then development of further English and maths skills will continue for the whole of the apprenticeship.

Levy paying employers may fund apprentices on this programme from their Apprenticeship Account and non-levy paying SMEs through the co-funded option. There may be a small fee for some SME’s.
