Expand your skills and knowledge of health in our FREE Year 11 Healthcare Academy
Our Healthcare academy is aimed at Year 11s who are interested in learning more about Health and Social Care from our expert team of lecturers. Held over four sessions, the Academy gives learners the chance to get hands-on with practical workshops, while expanding their knowledge of healthcare practices and patient behaviours.
You will get the opportunity to utilise our state-of-the-art Simulation Suite, modelled after a real-life hospital ward. This will give you the chance to put everything you will learn into practice in the most realistic setting possible.

These Healthcare Academy sessions have been expertly designed to support you in your first steps towards a career in healthcare. Whether you’re set on studying one of our Health programmes or still unsure and just want to dip your toe in, the academy is perfect for you! You can register for all four workshops or just your preferred session.
27th September: Working in a Hospital
During this session you will experience a "day in the life" of staff working in a clinical setting. You will have the chance to practice skills like taking blood, catheterisation, and supporting patients with challenging behaviour. You will put yourself into the shoes of different professionals, exploring what these roles do on a daily basis.
11th October: Working in Mental Health
In this session you will gain a brief overview of mental health conditions and how you can support service users to manage these on a daily basis. We will explore the sign and symptoms, and ways these can be managed. You will explore the variety of professionals that work within this area to identify potential career pathways that you may be interested in.
8th November: First Aid
This session will allow you to practice your first aid skills in a safe environment, with a variety of scenarios to explore. You will develop confidence in working in emergency situations, and gain an understanding of the skills required for this.
22nd November: Preparing to Care
This session will include an introduction to the skills required for a variety of roles and will be personalised to your own career goals. You will have the chance to practice what it is like to work in this role, with support from our team of industry specialists.
