Senior Healthcare Support Worker (Apprenticeship Level 3)

Introduction

On completion of this standard, apprentices will demonstrate a range of excellent skills such high quality, compassionate healthcare, following standards and always acting within the limits of your competence. Other units covered within this qualification include health and well bring, duty of care and candour, safeguarding, communication, personal people and quality improvement and health, safety and security. Apprentices will also select from one of the following options relating to their job role:

Option 1 – Adult nursing which includes a Level 3 Diploma in Clinical Healthcare Support.
Option 2 – Maternity which includes a Level 3 Diploma in Maternity and Paediatric Support.
Option 3 – Theatre which includes a Level 3 Diploma in Perioperative Support.
Option 4 – Mental Health which includes a Level 3 Diploma in Mental Health Care.

Entry requirements

Learners should hold a Level 2 health care qualification to start this apprenticeship or have substantial workplace experience in a health and social care setting. Learners will also be assessed to ensure they have the ability to complete the English and maths qualifications at Level 2. Candidates must undertake a recognised enhanced disclosure and barring service check.

Functional skills

Apprentices will be required to have or achieve Level 2 English and maths prior to completion of their apprenticeship. If this has already been achieved then development of further English and maths skills will continue for the whole of the apprenticeship.

End point assessment

To achieve this apprenticeship standard, the employer, training provider and apprentice will agree when the apprentice is ready and competent to undertake the independent end assessment, which will test their skills knowledge and behaviours required for this role.

Level 3: Diploma in Clinical Healthcare Support (QCF)
or
Level 3: Diploma in Maternity and Paediatric Support (QCF)
or
Level 3: Diploma in Perioperative Support (QCF)
or
Level 3: Diploma in Allied Health Profession Support (QCF)

Progression

After a period of working and gaining experience, learners may be able to work towards an assistant practitioner post or apply to a university to become a registered healthcare practitioner.

Duration

This apprenticeship is expected to last on average up to 18-24 months.

Funding

This apprenticeship is in funding band 4. Levy paying employers may fund apprentices on this programme from their Apprenticeship Account and non-levy paying SMEs through the co-funded option. There may be a small fee for some SME’s.
