Course Overview
The Uniformed Services (Entry into) Diploma is designed for learners who are considering a career in the armed forces, emergency services, or wider public service sector. Combining practical training with classroom learning, you'll develop the personal qualities, physical fitness, and professional skills that employers look for in high-pressure, team-based environments.
As a member of Weston College's Public Services Career Excellence Hub, you'll benefit from employer engagement with organisations including the Army, Navy, RAF, Royal Marines, Police, and Fire & Rescue Service. Through guest speakers, work experience, outdoor expeditions, and real-world activities, you'll gain valuable insight into public service careers while building the confidence to take your next step.
What will I study?
You'll develop practical skills, professional knowledge, and personal resilience through topics including:
• Physical fitness and wellbeing • Teamwork and leadership • Self-discipline and personal development • Emergency response procedures • Emergency first aid • Health and safety • Law and ethics • Map reading and navigation • Competitive sports • Public service careers and recruitment • Adventurous activities
You'll also complete a specialist unit focusing on either adventurous activities or competitive sports, alongside employability, study skills, tutorials, and work placement opportunities.
How will I be assessed?
Assessment includes:
• Written examinations • Coursework • Presentations • Practical activities • Ongoing assessment throughout the programme

Entry Requirements
You'll need:
• A minimum of five GCSEs at grades 9–2, including at least two at grade 4, or a relevant Level 1 qualification
Although GCSE English and maths are not required, you'll need to demonstrate a genuine interest in public services and related career pathways.
What can I do after this course?
Successful completion of this course could lead to:
• Progression to the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Protective Services • Apprenticeships within the public services sector • Careers in: • Armed Forces • Police • Fire and Rescue Service • Ambulance Service • Prison Service • Security and emergency response
