This year’s event takes place at the Winter Gardens on Thursday 11th June, and will celebrate the excellence of our apprentices, trainees, and learners that completed an industry placement - as well as recognising the work of our business network.

The Weston College Business Awards celebrate the outstanding partnership between learners and employers. Winners in each category will showcase a learner and their employer from the same organisation, highlighting exceptional collaboration and excellence within the company. Take a look at last year’s winners below. 

Our 2026 Award Categories

This award recognises learners who have developed valuable skills through employer-led work experience, and the partner organisations whose support has enabled successful transitions into apprenticeships and employment.

This award celebrates adult learners who completed an Adult Training course, and the partners who supported their development throughout.

This award honours learners who excelled in their Industry Placements and the businesses that provided exceptional guidance and support.

This award highlights outstanding collaboration between learners and our Career Excellence Hub Partners, integrating real-world experience with career-focused study.

The Into Work Partnership Award recognises learners in supported internships for those with SEND, and the employers whose dedication helps them move into employment.

This award celebrates apprenticeship graduates for their achievements and the partner organisations that supported their learning and success.

This award showcases degree apprentices for their impact and growth, alongside the partners providing daily support and opportunities to thrive.

This award honours a project that has made a significant positive impact on the community through innovation, collaboration, and measurable results.

Niykita Heele

Pathways for Young People Partnership Award

University Hospitals Bristol and Weston

Nikita joined the Pathway course aiming for a meaningful NHS career. She has shown dedication, strong work ethic, and thoughtful learning throughout. On placement at University Hospitals Bristol and Weston, she impressed across departments with professionalism, enthusiasm, and passion for supporting others, earning recognition for her commitment and impact.

Geerthana Anantharajah

Adult Training Partnership Award

ICTS UK Ltd

After completing Weston College’s Leadership and Management programme, Geerthana became ID Unit and Payroll Manager in 2023. She ensures compliance with security regulations, leads background checks, and develops her team through training and support. The course enhanced her confidence, decision-making, and communication, driving team and business success.

Will McKillop-Duffy

Industry Placement Partnership Award

William Haley Engineering

Will has excelled in his welding placement at William Haley Engineering, mastering MIG welding, technical drawings, and plating. Trained in safety, risk assessment, and quality standards, he shows reliability, teamwork, and eagerness to learn. Supported with ongoing training, Will is building confidence and is seen as a valued future team member.

Career Excellence Hub Partnership Award

Bristol South

DoubleTree by Hilton Bristol South - Cadbury House provides valuable work experience, mentoring, and career guidance for apprentices. Through inspiring behind-the-scenes tours and celebratory events, they showcase learner achievements. Their commitment to recruiting and supporting graduates ensures smooth transitions into employment, fostering confidence, professional growth, and long-term success in the industry.

Harry Bessant

Into Work Partnership Award

Bakers Dolphin

Harry began as a driver’s support on school pick-ups, ensuring safety and cleanliness. At Bakers Dolphin, he grew in confidence, took on routes, and supported customers. Now training as a minibus driver after earning his license, he balances work and study, showing commitment, positivity, and strong career progress.

George Evans

Apprenticeship Partnership Award

The Bristol Port Company

George has progressed from no leadership experience to becoming an effective supervisor at Bristol Port Company. He successfully led a performance-boosting project, applies problem-solving models across departments, and motivates teams through collaboration and strategy. Achieving a Distinction at EPA, George exemplifies dedication, growth, and the value of a well-supported apprenticeship.

Immanuel Oyetunde

UCW Higher and Degree Apprenticeship Partnership

Airbus

Immanuel balanced academic study with industry experience, supported by Airbus through diverse placements, mentorship, and growth opportunities. Contributing to projects like the A350 and A380, he presented on the Future of Work and celebrated graduation with family. Now pursuing a Master’s in Engineering with Business Management, he showcases Airbus’s supportive role.

Creative Arts Students

Community Project Award

Year 2 Level 3 Film, TV, and Creative Production students spent four weeks creating promotional campaigns for six local charities, including Weston Foodbank. Producing graphics, videos, and interviews, they gained real-world experience. The charities praised their professionalism, benefiting from valuable publicity, while students enhanced skills and contributed positively to the community.
