The Future is here
In 2019 the first Institutes of Technology (IoT) were selected through a government-led competition and 12 were awarded – the WEIoT was one of these.
The West of England Institute of Technology (WEIoT) is a consortium of education providers and key employers across the West of England. It has been led by Weston College and includes the University of the West of England, Bath College, Gloucestershire College, and Yeovil College.
In September 2024 we added City of Bristol College & South Gloucestershire & Stroud College to our existing network including a network of key local employers, including; GKN Aerospace, Airbus, University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Trust, St Monica Trust, Jisc, io Academy, National Composites Centre (NCC), North Somerset Council, Leonardo, Rolls Royce and Cloud Clvr.
Despite the challenges faced by the pandemic the WEIoT thrived, demonstrating how working collaboratively as education partners and with industry to meet the skills need of today and those in the everchanging landscape of technical education, is a must if we are to bridge the skills gap.
Since 2019 a further 9 IoT’s have been added across the country taking the total number to 21, which means more collaboration and more expert industry input to develop our future workforce.
