Jonny
Lecturer in Hospitality and Catering
As a new lecturer, I’m incredibly excited to join the Weston team and share my knowledge and passion for food. I have extensive industry experience gained over many years and my first 6 months at Weston have been fantastic. Teaching here fulfils a lifelong dream of mine – supporting new learners grown into confident and passionate chefs. I love to meet new people and I’m a firm believer that with motivation and commitment, we can all achieve our dreams and ambitions.
So, a bit about me. I have worked in a variety of kitchens, each differing in menus and style. I was very fortunate to work as a chef at a restaurant in Bristol that specialised in Middle Eastern cooking. Prior to that, I was a chef at a large, farm field-kitchen in Devon where I was privileged to work with the most exciting seasonal organic produce grown on the farm which we prepared and served to customers. I have also worked at a number of award winning bistros in Exeter. Throughout my kitchen-based career, I have strived to diversify my experience at lots of different restaurants, all of which have expanded my skills and expertise in different methods of cookery.
Throughout my career, I have always been asked to train new members of staff, this I believe, is due to my patience and ability to explain techniques clearly. Working in the commercial food industry has high demands and expectations, however it is one of the most fulfilling and fun environments to be!
My passion for cooking, experimenting with different foods, flavours and of course, discovering new places to eat continues to grow. I hope to enthuse the chefs of tomorrow to feel the same as I do, and to do their best. In return, I’ll do my very upmost to help the learners achieve their qualifications and enjoy their time at Weston College.
