Creative and Digital Media
Mel is a broadcast journalist and has been a media lecturer with us since 2012. She is the Year 2 coordinator for the TV, Film & Creative Production course. Mel has 30 years’ experience in radio as a journalist and news editor at stations run by Bauer, Global and Celador. She also set up the UK's very first specialised Radio Training Academy for young people. Many graduates from the scheme went on to secure jobs in the TV and broadcasting industry.
Mel is behind the college's first radio station, Weston Waves, broadcasting live every day from its bespoke base at Loxton Campus. Mel brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to Weston Creative Arts in all areas of media production. Her areas of expertise include music and speech radio, documentary, broadcast journalism, contextual studies, and radio production and podcasting
Mel’s passion, and her contacts within the industry, have also been invaluable in securing guest lecturers from the likes of Virgin Radio and Bauer Media. Her advice to students is:
‘Don't give up, follow your passion. Work hard and show commitment!’
Likes: Dogs, Take That, cricket
