When did you join Weston College?

"I joined Weston College fulltime in 2016 having previously worked in both construction, and primary education.

Why did you join Weston College?

"I was looking for an opportunity to develop my career in this direction when a perfect job came up at Weston College. This involved combining my passion for education and my expertise in the field. Joining Weston College was a natural choice for me due to its stellar reputation as a leading institution in the education sector. Not only does Weston College provide a supportive and inclusive learning environment, but it also offers a wide range of opportunities for professional growth and advancement.

How do you spend your day?

"I work fulltime, 5 days a week and my days are quite varied. Throughout the day, I oversee the operations of the construction faculty, which involves managing a team of lecturers and support staff. I provide guidance and support to ensure the smooth delivery of courses, addressing any issues that may arise and ensuring that teaching standards are maintained at the highest level. Overall, my days are dynamic and fast-paced, filled with a combination of administrative tasks, personnel management, industry engagement, and student-focused activities. It is an exciting and rewarding role that allows me to contribute to the growth and success of our students, as well as the construction department as a whole.

How has the College supported your career development?

Weston College has played a pivotal role in supporting my career development, offering invaluable opportunities for growth and progression. They have been instrumental in my journey to becoming a qualified teacher, providing me with comprehensive training through their Education and Training Certificate Level 5 program. This qualification equipped me with the necessary pedagogical skills and knowledge to excel in the classroom. Additionally, Weston College further supported my professional development by facilitating my completion of an Inclusive Practice degree. This degree enhanced my understanding of inclusive teaching strategies and allowed me to cater to the diverse needs of learners effectively.

Recognising the significance of leadership and management skills, the college also encouraged my participation in international leadership and management awards. These experiences provided me with valuable insights into effective leadership practices, enabling me to contribute to the growth and success of the institution.

One aspect that sets Weston College apart is their commitment to continuous professional development (CPD). Regular CPD sessions are organised, covering a wide range of topics such as Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI), mathematics and English teaching strategies, and achieving excellence in teaching. These sessions have been instrumental in keeping me up to date with the latest educational practices and ensuring that my teaching remains innovative and impactful.

Moreover, I am grateful for the college's financial support, as they have covered the costs of my training and development programs. This demonstrates their investment in their staff and their commitment to fostering a culture of continuous learning.

Furthermore, Weston College has always been incredibly supportive of my personal and professional aspirations. Recently, I had the opportunity to attend leadership training in Birmingham, a valuable experience that enhanced my leadership skills and expanded my professional network.

Overall, Weston College has been an outstanding institution for career development, providing comprehensive training, ongoing CPD opportunities, and unwavering support. Their investment in staff growth and development reflects their dedication to excellence in education and their commitment to empowering educators to reach their full potential.

What have you been involved in while working at Weston College?

During my tenure at the college, I have had the privilege of engaging in a diverse range of activities that have enriched my professional experience. From accompanying learners on residentials to Center Parcs and trekking on Exmoor, to travelling across the country and networking with fellow professionals, I have gained invaluable insights into the field of education.

One aspect of my involvement has been the opportunity to contribute to community projects and make a positive impact beyond the classroom. I have been actively involved in building bridges and undertaking various community activity initiatives, including the development of the @Worle Gym and Community Centre. Additionally, I have participated in projects reminiscent of the popular TV show "DIY SOS," where we collaborated with local schools and partners to enhance their facilities.

One of the remarkable aspects of my journey at the college is that each year has been distinct and filled with new experiences. I have embraced the ever-changing nature of my role, allowing me to constantly grow and evolve as an educator.

These diverse activities have not only added depth to my professional repertoire but have also allowed me to foster strong connections with learners and colleagues. The collective experiences and shared endeavours have created a vibrant and collaborative environment that promotes continuous learning and personal development.

Reflecting on my time at the college, I can confidently say that no two years have been alike. The array of opportunities and the dynamic nature of the role have ensured that each year has been filled with unique and enriching experiences. I am grateful for the diverse range of activities that have contributed to my growth as an educator and have made my journey at the college truly exceptional.

What’s the best thing about working at Weston College?

Working for the college has been an incredibly fulfilling experience, offering countless rewarding moments that have made a positive difference in the lives of both learners and staff. Witnessing their growth and development fills me with immense pride and serves as a constant reminder of the impact we can have on others. Moreover, the college has provided me with a stable and supportive platform, allowing me to build a fulfilling personal life alongside my professional career. Being able to settle down, start a family, and enjoy life has been made possible by the opportunities and support provided by the college.One of the remarkable aspects of my current campus is its proximity to my home, which enables me to ride my bike to work every day. This not only promotes a sustainable lifestyle but also allows me to strike a healthy work-life balance. The physical activity and fresh air contribute to my overall well-being, supporting both my physical and mental health.Throughout my tenure, the college has consistently invested in my professional development, fostering my growth and empowering me to excel in my role.
