WESTON COLLEGE STUDENTS' UNION

The Students' Union (SU) helps to drive improvements across the college, putting students first when important decisions are made and representing the student body.

The SU works closely with Wellbeing to ensure that the correct support is available to students in order to cover matters such as Health & Wellbeing, Housing, Finance, Libraries & Learning.

Scroll down to learn about the different roles within the SU.

Student Reps act as the voice of their peers within the college. Their primary responsibilities include advocating for student interests and concerns, and ensuring student perspectives are considered in decision-making processes. They gather feedback from students on various issues, such as academic quality, facilities, and campus life, and present this information during Learner Voice Campus Meetings.

This role requires a minimum commitment of around 5-6 hours per academic year, which includes training and Learner Voice Campus Meetings. There is no maximum commitment, so the opportunities you can take on as a rep are limitless.

Apprentice Ambassadors represent and support apprentices within the college. Their main duties include advocating for apprentice needs and interests, promoting apprenticeships, and providing peer support.
Apprentice Ambassadors, like Reps, gather feedback, share ideas, and help shape the apprentice experience, but with fewer commitments and more flexibility to fit around their busy schedules. Attendance at Learner Voice Campus Meetings is encouraged and welcomed, but unlike Student Reps, it is not mandatory.

The Student Leadership Team are a group of learners who provide leadership, strategic direction, and oversight for the Students' Union as a whole. The team is responsible for the SU's operations. They oversee the implementation of initiatives, manage budgets, develop policies and work to ensure that the SU effectively supports and represents the interests of the Student body on a broader scale. The current student leadership roles are President, Vice President, Communications Officer, Enrichment Officer, Sustainability & Inclusion Officer and Campus Officer(s).

TAs President, you’ll lead the learner voice at Weston College - chairing meetings, driving campaigns, and working with staff and students to improve the college experience. You’ll also sit on the Board of Governors, helping shape key decisions and ensuring student views are heard at the highest level.

As Vice President, you’ll support the President, help lead the Student Leadership Team, and ensure learner voices are heard across Weston College. You’ll step in when needed to represent learners at meetings and events, share campus insights, and help drive positive change throughout the college.

As Communications Officer, you’ll keep the SU team connected by creating meeting agendas, taking notes, and sharing key updates. You’ll also help run events, lead the Events Sub-Committee, and work with the Student Engagement Team to promote student news through social media, newsletters, and more.

As Enrichment Officer, you’ll help create a vibrant and inclusive college community by supporting clubs, societies, and social events across all campuses. You’ll lead the Enrichment Sub-Committee, work with the Student Engagement Team, and gather feedback to improve opportunities for all learners.

As Sustainability & Inclusion Officer, you’ll champion equality, diversity, and environmental responsibility across the college. Leading the Social Action Sub-Committee, you’ll support campaigns and initiatives that promote inclusion, raise awareness, and help build a respectful, sustainable community for all learners.

As Campus Officer, you’ll represent learners at your campus, acting as a key link between students and the Student Committee. You’ll gather feedback, raise campus-specific issues, and help promote events, clubs, and campaigns to build an active and supportive campus community.

Help plan and shape our brand-new end-of-year celebration. From music and food to activities and theme, you’ll have the freedom to create an event that reflects what learners really want.

From clubs & societies to tournaments and trips, you’ll play a part in promoting and supporting our Social & Active Weston initiatives and suggesting new ideas to keep them engaging and relevant for all.

Take part in campaigns, support and help shape RAG Week, get involved in volunteering, and lead student-led projects that create a positive impact across college and the wider community.

Halo workplace logo

Our workplace champions the right of staff to embrace all Afro-hairstyles. We acknowledge that Afro-textured hair is an important part of our Black employees’ racial, ethnic, cultural, and religious identities, and requires specific styling for hair health and maintenance. We celebrate Afro-textured hair worn in all styles including, but not limited to, afros, locs, twists, braids, cornrows, fades, hair straightened through the application of heat or chemicals, weaves, wigs, headscarves, and wraps. In this workplace, we recognise and celebrate our colleagues’ identities. We are a community built on an ethos of equality and respect where hair texture and style have no bearing on an employee's ability to succeed.
