I am currently completing an aerospace degree apprenticeship course at Weston College, which is a four-year program.
I decided to pursue an apprenticeship over Level 3 or A Levels because it provides a hands-on learning experience. Being able to learn through practical application makes it easier for me to understand complex engineering concepts. Additionally, the apprenticeship offers the benefit of being paid while learning, which is a great advantage. I chose my placement provider based on their strong presence in the aerospace industry and their commitment to providing comprehensive training and development opportunities for apprentices.
I chose engineering as my field of study because I have always been fascinated by problem-solving and innovation. Within engineering, I specifically chose to specialize in aerospace because of my keen interest in aircraft and space technology. The opportunity to contribute to the development of cutting-edge aerospace systems and push the boundaries of human exploration motivated me to pursue this specialty.
The highlight of my apprenticeship so far has been the opportunity to learn and collaborate with people from various engineering companies. Establishing a network of professionals in the industry has been invaluable, as it provides insights, knowledge sharing, and potential future collaborations. It has been rewarding to learn from experienced individuals and gain a broader perspective on engineering practices.
The support from Weston College has been excellent. The teachers, tutors, and assessors have provided one-on-one meetings and guidance regularly. The class size is limited, which allows for more personalized attention and the ability to ask for help without hesitation. The college's commitment to supporting apprentices has greatly enhanced my learning experience.
For someone considering an Engineering Apprenticeship with Weston College or my placement provider, I would advise them to take full advantage of the hands-on learning opportunities. Embrace the practical work experience and actively seek opportunities to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world projects. Networking and building connections with professionals in the field can also be highly beneficial for future career prospects.
After I finish my apprenticeship, I am hoping to take on major projects within my company and work towards becoming a team leader. The apprenticeship has provided me with a strong foundation of skills and knowledge, and I am excited to give back to the company .
