Learning Support

Our college is committed to supporting you no matter your course or background. We offer personalised learning support across all campuses to tailor to individual needs, delivered by specialist staff with expertise in areas such as autism, ADHD, mental health, SpLD, hearing loss, and sight loss. Using a graduated response and the Assess–Plan–Do–Review process, we provide support in and out of the classroom. This may include assistive technology, learning adjustments, or wellbeing support, helping students progress towards their future goals.

Welfare

At Weston College, we have a friendly Welfare and Wellbeing Team who will provide support and guidance about any concerns or issues you face throughout your time at college.

Financial Support

To ensure you have equal opportunities throughout your time at college, we offer financial support to students who are eligible depending on your individual circumstances, providing you with bursaries for essential kit, required equipment, and trips to further your learning.

Travelling to College

At Weston College, we have excellent transport links to all three main campuses. Each site is accessible by road, train, and bus, with two train stations in Weston-super-Mare and nearby bus stops serving all campuses. As part of our commitment to environmental sustainability, we encourage staff and students to choose more eco-friendly travel options, helping to reduce environmental impact and benefit both the college community and the wider area.

Support with Careers

Our Careers and Employability Team provide you with guidance on university, apprenticeships, CV writing, and next steps. They support industry placements, including T Level work placements, helping you find, prepare for, and reflect on opportunities. The team also ensures that you gain valuable experience, skills, and confidence for future careers.

*Your enrolment appointment will take place at the College in the week beginning 24th August 2026. This is when you’ll come in with your GCSE results, collect your student ID and complete your final enrolment steps. You will receive an invite nearer the time.

If you are a full-time student, you will have many opportunities to go on trips throughout your time at Weston College. We encourage you to apply your classroom knowledge to real-world settings, meet industry professionals, and create memories and experiences that last beyond your college years.

Not only do you have opportunities to go on trips within your course, but Weston College has also been awarded a bursary through the Turing Scheme for next year to provide students with international opportunities. This is a global programme for studying and working abroad which enables students—especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds—to gain the confidence, skills, and international experience that employers value.

The funding will support placements this academic year in Canada, the USA, Indonesia, and Thailand, giving students the chance to immerse themselves in new cultures, develop global citizenship skills, and gain hands-on industry experience.

Last year, students had the opportunity to go to fantastic countries such as New York, Nashville, and Canada, providing them with unforgettable memories and developing their skills both personally and professionally.

The Students' Union (SU) is made up of Student Representatives and Student Executives to help drive improvements across the college, putting students first when important decisions are made and representing the student body.

This elected team of students work together to create a diverse and inclusive community, encouraging engagement in trips, events, clubs & societies.

Recently a group of <a href="https://www.weston.ac.uk/what-can-i-study/courses-16-18-year-olds/educa…; rel="noreferrer noopener" title="https://www.weston.ac.uk/what-can-i-study/courses-16-18-year-olds/educa…; target="_blank">Early Years</a> learners, studying either the <a href="https://www.weston.ac.uk/what-can-i-study/courses-16-18-year-olds/educa…; rel="noreferrer noopener" title="https://www.weston.ac.uk/what-can-i-study/courses-16-18-year-olds/educa…; target="_blank">T Level</a> or a <a href="https://www.ucw.ac.uk/courses-by-subject/education-and-early-years/" rel="noreferrer noopener" title="https://www.ucw.ac.uk/courses-by-subject/education-and-early-years/" target="_blank">degree with University Centre Weston (UCW),</a> embarked on an exciting residential to Budapest.  Over three days, the group immersed themselves in Hungarian culture, education, and history, gaining invaluable insights and experiences which will not only improve their classroom knowledge, but also their personal and professional development. Here is how the trip unfolded: Day 1 – A Warm Hungarian Welcome  After an early morning start, our students landed in Budapest, eager to begin their journey. Their first day was spent exploring the city's stunning architecture, rich history, and vibrant culture.  The highlight of the day, however, came with visits to two local kindergartens. Early Years Students’ Unforgettable Trip to Budapest

This month, our <a href="https://www.weston.ac.uk/what-can-i-study/courses-16-18-year-olds/music…; rel="noreferrer noopener" title="https://www.weston.ac.uk/what-can-i-study/courses-16-18-year-olds/music…; target="_blank">Music and Production</a> students had the incredible opportunity to take a 12-day trip to Nashville due to the generous funding from the Turing Scheme. The trip offered students the chance to explore the city whilst giving them a better understanding of the music industry, further developing their personal and professional growth.  The Turing Scheme is an amazing initiative that provides financial support for education providers, enabling students to take part in international study and work placements. This support opens the door to global learning experiences that not only enrich education but also provide cultural awareness and career growth. For many of the students on this trip, it was a truly once-in-a-lifetime experience, with some having never left the UK before, let alone travelled across the world. The scheme made the adventure extremely accessible, with some students even attending completely free of charge.  Despite an unexpected delay caused by airport closures that pushed their departure back three days, and weather warnings during their stay, the students remained upbeat and resilient. They took everything in stride, embracing every moment with positivity and maturity.  After arriving in Nashville, the group’s itinerary was jam-packed! They visited world-renowned music landmarks such as the Johnny Cash Museum, and the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum where they got to immerse themselves in the history and evolution of different genres. Students took part in a marketing workshop led by Rick Barker, best known for managing Taylor Swift in her early career, and a vocal training session with Brett Manning, an industry-renowned coach. Peer songwriting sessions encouraged collaboration, with students sharing their work and receiving feedback in a supportive environment. Some even performed on a public piano in one of the museums, capturing the attention of visitors with their music. The final workshop offered a chance to present their songs to a panel of professionals, giving them an invaluable taste of real industry feedback.  On top of this, the trip also offered a range of cultural experiences. Students enjoyed street performances, a fantastic evening show at the Grand Ole Opry, visits to Madame Tussauds, and free time exploring the famous Broadway strip. They stopped at the world-renowned Carter Vintage Guitars which gave them a hands-on look at top-tier instruments, and they also enjoyed lots of delicious food during their trip which was definitely a highlight! This trip made a lasting impact, allowing students to gain perspective on what a career in music really looks like. By meeting professionals, exploring legendary venues, and participating in practical workshops, they developed a clearer understanding of the dedication, creativity, and perseverance required to thrive in the industry. It also boosted their independence and confidence, providing them with essential life skills of navigating life in a city.  None of this would have been possible without the dedication and support of staff members Oz Cahill, Tom Manning, and Laura Trace, who went above and beyond to ensure the trip was well-organised, safe, and unforgettable. Music Students Take an Unforgettable Trip to Nashville

As part of Competitions Week, our <a href="https://www.weston.ac.uk/what-can-i-study/courses-16-18-year-olds/compu…; rel="noreferrer noopener" title="https://www.weston.ac.uk/what-can-i-study/courses-16-18-year-olds/compu…; target="_blank">Esports</a> students hosted an exciting and immersive event inspired by Marvel Rivals for learners in <a href="https://www.weston.ac.uk/what-can-i-study/courses-16-18-year-olds/send/…; rel="noreferrer noopener" title="https://www.weston.ac.uk/what-can-i-study/courses-16-18-year-olds/send/…; target="_blank">Extension Studies</a>. The event space was transformed into a themed experience, with the walls being decorated in Marvel Rivals hero profiles and posters and live LED lighting to add atmosphere, this created an engaging environment for all participants. From a production standpoint, the students set up a fully equipped classroom featuring spectator systems, a dedicated streaming PC, and a professional shoutcasting stage. This seamless collaboration resulted in a smooth and enjoyable experience for everyone involved. Beyond the fun and competition, the event served as a valuable learning opportunity, highlighting the wide range of roles within the Esports industry and the importance that each role plays in delivering professional-level events.
