Learning Support

Our college is committed to supporting you no matter your course or background. We offer personalised learning support across all campuses to tailor to individual needs, delivered by specialist staff with expertise in areas such as autism, ADHD, mental health, SpLD, hearing loss, and sight loss. Using a graduated response and the Assess–Plan–Do–Review process, we provide support in and out of the classroom. This may include assistive technology, learning adjustments, or wellbeing support, helping students progress towards their future goals.

Welfare

At Weston College, we have a friendly Welfare and Wellbeing Team who will provide support and guidance about any concerns or issues you face throughout your time at college.

Financial Support

To ensure you have equal opportunities throughout your time at college, we offer financial support to students who are eligible depending on your individual circumstances, providing you with bursaries for essential kit, required equipment, and trips to further your learning.

Travelling to College

At Weston College, we have excellent transport links to all three main campuses. Each site is accessible by road, train, and bus, with two train stations in Weston-super-Mare and nearby bus stops serving all campuses. As part of our commitment to environmental sustainability, we encourage staff and students to choose more eco-friendly travel options, helping to reduce environmental impact and benefit both the college community and the wider area.

Support with Careers

Our Careers and Employability Team provide you with guidance on university, apprenticeships, CV writing, and next steps. They support industry placements, including T Level work placements, helping you find, prepare for, and reflect on opportunities. The team also ensures that you gain valuable experience, skills, and confidence for future careers.

*Your enrolment appointment will take place at the College in the week beginning 23rd August 2027. This is when you’ll come in with your GCSE results, collect your student ID and complete your final enrolment steps. You will receive an invite nearer the time.

Your Student Experience

If you are a full-time student, you will have many opportunities to go on trips throughout your time at Weston College. We encourage you to apply your classroom knowledge to real-world settings, meet industry professionals, and create memories and experiences that last beyond your college years.

Not only do you have opportunities to go on trips within your course, but Weston College has also been awarded a bursary through the Turing Scheme for next year to provide students with international opportunities. This is a global programme for studying and working abroad which enables students—especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds—to gain the confidence, skills, and international experience that employers value.

The funding will support placements this academic year in Canada, the USA, Indonesia, and Thailand, giving students the chance to immerse themselves in new cultures, develop global citizenship skills, and gain hands-on industry experience.

Last year, students had the opportunity to go to fantastic countries such as New York, Nashville, and Canada, providing them with unforgettable memories and developing their skills both personally and professionally.

The Students' Union (SU) is made up of Student Representatives and Student Executives to help drive improvements across the college, putting students first when important decisions are made and representing the student body.

This elected team of students work together to create a diverse and inclusive community, encouraging engagement in trips, events, clubs & societies.

Health and Social Care Learners on a Trip in London in Front of a Parliament

Last week our Level 2,3 and T Level Health learners embarked on an enriching journey to London! Over the course of three exciting days, the learners immersed themselves in multiple aspects of healthcare evolution and human anatomy, enhancing their knowledge and eagerness for the field. The students’ highlight of their trip was a visit to the Florence Nightingale Museum, where they explored the rich history of healthcare and gained insights into its evolution through the years. This experience was unforgettable for our students, they carefully connected their classroom-based learning to real world applications by delving into the pioneering practices of Florence Nightingale to modern-day innovations.  Moreover, the learners had the unique opportunity to engage in interactive activities while touring the Science Museum, discovering the intricate workings of the human body! Health Students Immerse in Three Day London Experience

Students on the UAL Foundation Diploma in Art and Design have been working on a special project!  As part of the course learners have been spending 9 weeks in rotating specialisms where they work in Visual Communication, Surface and Form and Interdisciplinary Fine Art. The graphic work is part of a 1-day project on pen to Mouse and the textile, fashion and costume work was a 3-week project around the theme of Order and Chaos. The students take these loose themes and investigate further how they can make the project personal to them. Each student will do practical experimentation as primary research and research into other artists for secondary research.  This project has had a fantastic impact on the students. They have shown that they are able to problem solve, use exhaustive idea generation and understand the theory behind their own and other artist's work. In addition to this they have learned about using varied materials and processes, as well as expanding on their creative process as a whole and producing complete pieces of work that will support their practical portfolio when attending upcoming University interviews.   Lecturer Rachel Clayton said: "the students have been working hard throughout these exciting projects, building on their practical skills, and producing sophisticated outcomes through extensive workshops. They have used their broad practical knowledge and in-depth theoretical understanding to create work that is ambitious, playful and of a high standard. “This work will support their portfolios for their upcoming University interviews across the country, including prestigious institutions such as Central St Martins, Goldsmiths, Camberwell and London College of Fashion to name a few. We are so proud of what they are achieving and the quality of the work they are producing- well done!" This project forms part of the Creative Arts Careers Excellence Hub. Weston College's Career Excellence Hubs are designed to be the launching pad for our learners' careers. Art Students Success on ‘Order & Chaos’ Project

A Weston College student has created a logo, chosen by North Somerset Council to symbolise Knife Angel’s visit to Weston-super-Mare this spring. <drupal-entity alt=""Knife Angel Weston-super-Mare "" data-entity-type="file" data-entity-uuid="6b7f699c-733f-4dc9-b9b9-08357099e86c" data-embed-button="file_browser" data-entity-embed-display="image:image" data-entity-embed-display-settings="{"image_style":"max_750x750","image_link":"","image_loading":{"attribute":"lazy"}}"> </drupal-entity> Graphic design student Ryan created the winning design. He is currently studying for a degree in graphic design from Weston College. His cohort, along with second year Level 3 graphic design course students, were tasked with designing a logo and brand identity concepts as part of a live client brief. This follows the announcement that the Knife Angel will visit Weston in May 2024 as part of a nationwide tour to highlight the issue of violent crime. The iconic 27-feet-tall statue has been created from over 100,000 knives and blades confiscated by the UK’s 43 police forces. Designed by Alfie Bradley at the British Ironwork Centre (BIC), the Knife Angel is a national monument against violence and aggression. Councillor James Clayton, North Somerset Council’s executive member for safety in the community, said: “Violent crime, particularly knife crime, is a major issue across the UK. The Knife Angel symbolises the devastating impacts that this can have on communities. What a brilliant idea to get this group of talented young people involved in creating a logo that can be used before, during and after the Knife Angel’s visit. “Ryan has created a visually striking design that I’m sure will help to make sure the Knife Angel’s powerful message leaves a positive and lasting impact. Well done to him, and indeed all of the students who took part in the brief. It was hard to choose an overall winning design as the submissions were so strong.” Coralie Kyriacou, Graphic Design and Digital Arts course co-ordinator and lecturer at Weston College, said: “The Knife Angel represents a real-life problem and something that needs considered communications to help strengthen the public’s understanding around the important issue of violent crime. “I feel honoured that our graphic design students have been given this opportunity to work with North Somerset Council on this. Live briefs are a fantastic opportunity for our students to work with clients, develop their professionalism, confidence and specialised design skills to enable them to become industry-ready for future careers.” Ryan, the designer of the logo, said: “It’s a real honour to have my logo chosen to represent Knife Angel for North Somerset, as knife crime is such a current and growing problem.
