Level 3
Further Mathematics, A Level
On the first year of this programme you will study A Level maths before progressing to further
mathematics in the second. Not only will you learn mathematical processes, which will enable you to work in high-level industries such as engineering, sciences, finance and computing, but you will learn how to spot and solve more complex real-life problems with confidence.
The core units look at numerical calculations, algebra, trigonometry, logarithms and calculus. This will build on your GCSE lessons. In your second year, you will study modules in further pure mathematics, and two of the following three areas: mechanics, decision maths and statistics. Where appropriate, you will also receive support with entrance papers (such as STEP and MAT) in your second year.
How will I be assessed?
Exams in your first and second year.
What could I do after this course?
You could apply to study physics, computing or engineering at university level.
Entry Requirements
Five GCSEs at grade 9-4, including English, and grade 8 or above in maths.
