Gary

My name is Gary, and I recently completed the adult <a href="https://www.weston.ac.uk/what-can-i-study/courses-adults/electrical/ele… 2 Diploma in Electrical Installations.

May I start by saying; having been one of the eldest students on the course I found the thought of undertaking this course a little daunting. It has been a very long time since I was expected to study and undertake exams, assessments etc. From the first classroom session it was clear that the teaching staff were very good in their professional fields, their teaching techniques were second to none, they took time to explain lessons and more importantly actively encouraged questions, regardless of if it seemed daft or not. They would take time to deliver the question in a simpler form and patiently explain the outcome, making the whole process pleasurable (believe it or not).

The teaching staff would encourage a positive attitude when it came to undertaking essential exams to progress the course to the next stage. Those who were a little unfortunate to miss out on a pass would be offered additional help and reassured that the exam would be passed. They were very sympathetic and supportive if someone did not make the grade at that particular time, and the course candidates were actively encouraged to work together and help each other, which was very refreshing to see.

Again, Lee’s, Andy’s, and Mark’s knowledge in practical sessions greatly helped to get to the result, a pass on the course. No matter how many times things needed to be explained or demonstrated they would be patient and approach various ways to explain and demonstrate the task being undertaken. Their knowledge of electrical principles was outstanding and made the course even more enjoyable.

In my opinion they are an asset to Weston College, and with tutors of this calibre I can only see Weston College going very far in the education world. The commitment these staff have to get their students through the course is again outstanding, despite the long hours put in to deliver the course while teaching daytime students.

Paul stood infront of electrics

Hi, I'm Paul, and I have recently completed the <a href="https://www.weston.ac.uk/what-can-i-study/courses-adults/electrical/ele… 2 Electrical Installations course. This course has massively increased my confidence, and has been incredibly rewarding, especially thanks to the amazing teachers who guided me every step of the way. Here’s a bit about my experience:

I started this course because I've always wanted to learn more about electrics, especially as a property owner. Understanding electrical work is such a valuable skill in everyday life.

The practical evenings of this course were the best part for me, as I was able to fit the course into my normal working weeks without a problem. I'm definitely a hands-on learner, so getting to practice what we learned in real time was very engaging.

I was surprised by how much theory was involved. Keeping up with all the coursework was challenging, but I now understand how crucial that theoretical knowledge is.

The course was well-equipped with all the tools and facilities we needed. Everything was available to help us complete the course successfully.

In my job as a maintenance worker, this course has given me a solid foundation to build on. I'm even considering moving on to Level 3!

This course will have a positive impact on my career and daily life as I’m constantly around electrical work, so the knowledge I've gained from this course helps me handle simple tasks confidently.

The teachers were absolutely fantastic. Lee's extensive knowledge and excellent people skills made a huge difference. He went above and beyond to help us achieve our goals, and his teaching methods really boosted our confidence.

Andy was always there to help anyone stuck on a part of the course. His attention to detail and willingness to explain everything thoroughly was incredibly helpful.

Neil's extra science lessons were a lifesaver for me when prepping for exams. His dedication to helping us understand the material was much appreciated.

Thanks to these teachers, I feel so much more confident than when I started. This past year has truly been a great experience for me!

My advice to anyone thinking about doing this course is to just go for it! Be prepared to put in a lot of effort both in class and at home – but it's totally worth it in the end.

UHBW learners

On the 15th of April, we launched our first Sector Based Work Academy Programme (SWAP) with UHBW (University Hospitals Bristol & Weston) and it has been an overwhelming success!

The first two weeks covered a wide range of subjects and an insight into the various roles that are available within UHBW. The group learned how to work within a team, were introduced to the NHS Trust values, discussed equality and inclusion, and looked at the job roles that would best suit them.

At the start of Week 3, 22 learners gathered at the Education Centre in Bristol and were given interesting, fun and informative presentations by the UHBW Team. We learnt what it’s like to work in a busy hospital environment, the skills and behaviours required and the process for submitting a quality application.

Everyone fully engaged with the sessions, which resulted in some fantastic discussions, sharing of personal experiences and some amazing stories and reasons for wanting to work for UHBW!

We hope that many of the learners will go on to have a long and successful career within the NHS and we are already excited to welcome our next cohort, which begins on Monday 5th August.

We received an array of positive feedback from those who attended:

“I think the course is brilliant and is a great insight to the NHS.
