How to prepare for your guidance session

Huge congratulations on completing your application to Weston College. We are really looking forward to meeting you at your guidance session.

The guidance session is an opportunity for you to find out information about Weston College, tour your potential campus and discover what your faculty has to offer you. We will not only have your chosen faculty available but also the apprenticeship team and learning support.

Below we have put together some helpful tips so you can prepare and know what to expect.

Guidance sessions take place with our Admissions Team. Your guidance session is an opportunity for us both to get to know each other better. We want you to enjoy your time studying with us and get the most out of it. At Weston College, we focus on careers, not just courses. The session is our chance to talk through all the opportunities to make sure you start on a course that is the right fit for you.

You can choose whether to attend your interview in person or online via Microsoft Teams.

If your interview is in person, please report to Reception on arrival at our Knightstone Campus.

If you have requested an online interview via Microsoft Teams your Teams invite will be sent on the morning of your interview. - Select ‘Join Microsoft Teams Meeting’ in your meeting invite to be taken to a page where you can choose to either join on the web or download the desktop app. If you already have the Teams app, the meeting will open there automatically. If you don’t have a Teams account, you may have the option to enter your name to join the meeting as a guest. If you do have a Teams account, select ‘Sign in’ to join with access to the meeting chat and more.

Please be on time. If you are going to be late or can’t make your interview please call us on 01934 411411.

- Most recent school report/record of achievement
- Details of any additional learning support you have received previously (e.g. EHCP)
- You also might want to prepare a list of questions you would like to ask our staff

Weston College is all about ‘Creating Brighter Futures’. We want to know that you have thought about your application choice(s) and that they are appropriate for your career goals. We’ll want to see your passion for the subject area you have applied for – what inspired you to apply? We’ll want to see a positive attitude, which will show us you are willing to work hard and reach your potential. Some questions we might ask:

- Why you have applied for this subject
- Have you done any careers research? (Take a look at Careers Coach where you can explore careers, as well as complete a careers questionnaire.)
- Why you want to become a Weston College learner?
- What have you enjoyed at school?
- What are your predicted grades?
- Tell us about your extra-curricular activities? Do you have any hobbies/interests?
- What are your strengths?

Please attend your Guidance session in smart/casual attire.

Parents/Carers are more than welcome to accompany you to your Guidance session. We will have advisors available to answer any questions that you or your parent/carer might have.

Our Admissions Team will be able to inform you at the end of the guidance session whether they will be offering you a place and explain the next steps.

To join any college programme you’ll need to meet the entry requirements. These will be explained during the guidance session and you’ll receive further information in an email confirming the offer of a place. The email will also explain how to log on to your account and accept your offer, as well as lots of other useful information.

One Message, Different Voices

Take a look at this powerful film made by the staff of Weston College to show how important it is for everyone from different backgrounds to be included. The film shares heartfelt stories and interviews with a diverse group of staff, showing how accepting different identities and backgrounds can make a big difference. Its purpose is to encourage viewers to think about their own biases and work towards making our community more welcoming to all. We invite everyone, regardless of their background, to join us and be a part of our journey toward a more inclusive future.

Halo workplace logo

Our workplace champions the right of staff to embrace all Afro-hairstyles. We acknowledge that Afro-textured hair is an important part of our Black employees’ racial, ethnic, cultural, and religious identities, and requires specific styling for hair health and maintenance. We celebrate Afro-textured hair worn in all styles including, but not limited to, afros, locs, twists, braids, cornrows, fades, hair straightened through the application of heat or chemicals, weaves, wigs, headscarves, and wraps. In this workplace, we recognise and celebrate our colleagues’ identities. We are a community built on an ethos of equality and respect where hair texture and style have no bearing on an employee's ability to succeed.
