New car registrations are at the highest level in over a decade. With an increase in the number of cars, including the huge demand for electric and hybrid cars, there is steady demand for skilled people who are trained in motor vehicle maintenance. The wider automotive industry, including manufacturing, retail and finance, currently employs over 780,000 people across the UK.

<p>Recently, the UK’s largest bus operator, <a href="https://www.stagecoachbus.com/">Stagecoach</a>, and <a href="https://wdct.uk/">Weston & District Community Transport</a>, a not-for-profit organisation providing affordable to all door-to-door transport for the elderly, disabled and less advantaged residents, visited our Bus Bootcamp learners for a session about careers and opportunities within their company.</p><p><a href="https://www.stagecoachbus.com/">Stagecoach</a> delivered an engaging presentation to our Bus Bootcamp learners, which offered an insightful overview of the company, inspiring employee progression stories, introductions to key team members, a showcase of the Bristol network, and a look into Stagecoach’s company vision – concluding with an interactive Q&A session.</p><p> </p><drupal-entity data-entity-type="file" data-entity-uuid="a21ff9b7-ef4c-4a20-8728-067f2be5f97e" data-embed-button="file_browser" data-entity-embed-display="image:image" data-entity-embed-display-settings="{"image_style":"max_650x650","image_link":"file","image_loading":{"attribute":"lazy"}}"> </drupal-entity><p> </p><p><a href="https://www.stagecoachbus.com/">Stagecoach</a> arrived in one of their own training buses, giving learners the unique opportunity to get behind the wheel and experience what it’s really like to drive a bus. The visit concluded with one-to-one interviews between the learners and Stagecoach representatives, providing an excellent opportunity to discuss future career prospects within the company.</p><p><a href="https://wdct.uk/">Weston & District Community Transport </a>provided the bootcamp learners with an engaging overview of their community transport service, highlighting the vital role they play in supporting local residents and improving accessibility across the area. <p>It is vital that businesses keep their workers up to date with the latest industry trends and skills, and this is key for businesses in the automotive industry, where the likes of electric vehicles are constantly evolving and expanding.</p><p>To help automotive businesses with upskilling their staff, we offer <strong>Skills Bootcamps for Electric Vehicles, </strong>funded by the <strong>West of England Mayoral Combined Authority. </strong>This Skills Bootcamp runs over <strong>10 weeks </strong>(day release, <strong>1 day per week</strong> for 10 weeks) and equips staff with the technical knowledge and practical skills to confidently and safely maintain and repair electric and hybrid vehicles.</p><p>On completion, learners will be able to work safely on electric/hybrid vehicles and carry out essential tasks including<strong> high-voltage system repairs, data recording,</strong> and <strong>recommending maintenance solutions.</strong> The Skills Bootcamp includes a blend of classroom-based and hands-on workshop learning, preparing participants to meet the demands of the fast-evolving electric vehicle (EV) market.</p><p>Our Skills Bootcamps have paved the way for numerous inspiring success stories, and one standout example is Jack Goodall and <a href="https://www.aandd4x4.co.uk/">A&D 4x4 Ltd.</a></p><p><iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/ALkS_0ZZ34g?si=BiGkRG_6aFVhLhqw" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" referrerpolicy="strict-origin-when-cross-origin" allowfullscreen=""></iframe> </p><p><a href="https://www.aandd4x4.co.uk/">A&D 4X4 </a>is an automotive company focused primarily in the Land Rover market, which increasingly involves hybrid and electric vehicle technologies. <p>Weston College has been named as the Bristol and Bath Apprenticeship Provider of the Year for the third year in a row.</p>
<p>The awards were virtual this year, and were hosted by BBC personality, Ali Vowles. There were winners from across the region, as the hard work of apprentices, employers and training providers were recognised.</p>
<p>Weston College learners picked up prestigious awards too, with Harvey Castree (Outstanding Apprentice of the Year (Engineering, Manufacturing, Energy & Electrical) and Danny Gould-Dyer (Outstanding Apprentice of the Year (Health, Wellbeing, Care & Education) winning their categories.</p>
<p>The highlight of the evening was the Bristol & Bath Apprentice of the Year award which went to Harvey, for his fantastic work with his employer, GKN Aerospace.</p>
<p>This is further success for the Weston College Apprenticeship Team, with Leadership and Management apprentice, Dan Green, recently winning the Gloucestershire Apprentice of the Year.</p>
<p>The College delivers a range of apprenticeships from Level 2 to degree-level and works with many high-profile employers in the Bristol and Bath area, including the Ministry of Defence and GKN Aerospace and Royal United Hospitals Bath.</p>
<p>Dr Paul Phillips CBE, Principal and Chief Executive of Weston College Group, said: “I am delighted that we have managed to win this award for the third year in a row, it really does showcase the amazing work that goes on in this College on a daily basis.</p>
<p>“Our team are once again bucking the national trend, creating new opportunities for our learners. Our apprentices are also having huge impacts on their businesses, and it is fantastic to see.</p>
<p>“I’m also delighted for our learners, as we had six apprentices make the finals, with both Harvey and Danny coming out victorious. Our learners show such a fantastic attitude to their studies and I am thrilled to see them performing so well in such a difficult period.”</p>
