WHAT OUR STUDENTS SAY
Andy
"I came back to prove to myself I can do this so that I can get into teaching. It was a great experience, the staff were really supportive”. He went on to say to anyone considering doing the same “Age is not a barrier, go for it!
Sammy
"I did not do well at school, I needed the grades to go to uni to be a paramedic. It’s been amazing, there has been lots of support. You are never too old to learn."
Lyndsey
"I was worried I was going to be the oldest - I wasn’t. I was worried I wouldn’t fit in - but I did! I am a mum with two children, so running a home, teaching my own children and studying during lockdown was a juggle but I have achieved it! I am really happy and have now applied for more courses at college to go into teaching or student support"
One Message, Different Voices
Take a look at this powerful film made by the staff of Weston College to show how important it is for everyone from different backgrounds to be included. The film shares heartfelt stories and interviews with a diverse group of staff, showing how accepting different identities and backgrounds can make a big difference. Its purpose is to encourage viewers to think about their own biases and work towards making our community more welcoming to all. We invite everyone, regardless of their background, to join us and be a part of our journey toward a more inclusive future.
Our workplace champions the right of staff to embrace all Afro-hairstyles. We acknowledge that Afro-textured hair is an important part of our Black employees’ racial, ethnic, cultural, and religious identities, and requires specific styling for hair health and maintenance. We celebrate Afro-textured hair worn in all styles including, but not limited to, afros, locs, twists, braids, cornrows, fades, hair straightened through the application of heat or chemicals, weaves, wigs, headscarves, and wraps. In this workplace, we recognise and celebrate our colleagues’ identities. We are a community built on an ethos of equality and respect where hair texture and style have no bearing on an employee's ability to succeed.
