From the age of 4, I decided that I wanted to study marine biology! I have animals at home, fish (obviously), a dog, chickens and I’m now trying to get a beehive!
Have you ever wondered how a cow can live on grass, yet humans can’t? Or which toenail forms a horse’s hoof? Well, here at Puxton my teaching tends to cover the science aspects of the course, looking at cells, body systems and how they function.
I’ve had various jobs working in pets departments at different garden and leisure centres as well as working in a vet surgery. Fast forward 20 years and I had my dream job In Weymouth Sealife Park and Marine Sanctuary. My job title was Displays Supervisor which meant I was responsible for a team of 5 aquarists looking after; seals, otters, penguins, sharks, jellyfish, seahorses and more.
After several years I realised that I got more enjoyment from sharing my knowledge of the animals and teaching other people about how great they are. So, I made the move into teaching and have loved it ever since!
