This week, Business West organised a Media Faculty Tour for local employers from Weston-super-Mare and Bristol to attend Weston College’s Loxton Campus to explore the fantastic facilities and gain a better understanding of what our students can offer businesses. Employers such as LRB Media, Green Frog Connect, The Hive, and CIMA attended, getting first-hand insight into how Weston College Media operate. 

On 6th June, our Performing Arts students came together to perform Echoes of the Stage at The Playhouse Theatre, an original production that incorporated a range of legendary musicals theatre numbers from existing Broadway and West End shows across different eras.  

Last night, our Creative Arts Careers Excellence Hub came together to produce a fantastic preview evening of the Summer Showcase which exhibited the work of our Weston College and University Centre Weston (UCW) Creative Arts students, giving them the chance to display their incredible work, not only to their peers and lecturers, but also to their friends, family, members of the public and potential employers.

The creative industries are evolving at an unprecedented rate. Traditionally, success in fields like design, media, performing arts, and film depended largely on talent and technical skills. Today, however, the landscape is shifting - creative professionals must also be entrepreneurs, capable of marketing their work, managing finances, and navigating self-employment.

Last week, our Media and Photography students visited the Bristol Hippodrome to gain work experience photographing the performing arts venue. They photographed both the interior and exterior as well as the staff at work.

Once again, our Music and Media departments have joined forces to highlight the remarkable talent and cross-disciplinary collaboration of our students!

We caught up with Lily a former learner who studied Media Production and is now working at Aardman Animations!

Who are you and what is your current job role?

My name is Lily, and I current work as an Assistant Animator at Aardman Animations. My job role includes testing and animating sequences, creating and preparing puppets and mouth sets.
