At the session, learners will have the opportunity to meet their tutor and receive a comprehensive rundown of the course structure, content, and expectations. To ensure a smooth enrolment process, it's vital that all learners bring their Driver's License and National Insurance (NI) number for verification purposes. Please remember, attendance at this session is a crucial part of securing your spot on the course. While we appreciate your interest and application, we must reiterate that a space is not guaranteed until you have fully completed the enrolment process and attended this introductory session. Confirmation of your place will only be provided at the conclusion of this session, so your presence and participation are essential.

Part 1 Transport and Logistics

Location: South West Skills Campus – Locking Road – BS22 8NL

Date: starts on Monday 30th June 2025

Time: 9:00 - 14:30

Content to be covered in 3 weeks

  • Transport and Logistics (2weeks)
  • Certificate in skills for working in Transport and Logistics Environment

Visit to the Driver Training Centre

  • Medical Assessment Day
  • Sit in our HGV
  • Guest Speaker “A Day in a life of HGV Driver”
  • Apply for your provisional driving license
  • DTS Training (This is the platform you use for your theory learning) Q&A session

Practical training will be booked once the following has been completed:

  • Passed Medical assessment
  • Received provisional licence
  • 35 Hours of Online Driving Theory (DTS Anytime)
  • Passed Theory Tests 1A, 1B and 2

Part 2 Practical Training- Construction Training Centre

Location: Construction Training Centre Locking Head -

  • 20 Hours Driver Training
  • 4 hours Reversing
  • 4 hours of Module 4 training and Test
  • Driver CPC

At the outset of your Bootcamp experience, you will be assigned a dedicated member of our staff whose sole responsibility is to support you throughout your journey. This personalised approach ensures that you receive the guidance and assistance necessary to navigate the dynamic landscape of the HGV (Heavy Goods Vehicle) sector effectively.

Your dedicated support member will serve as your primary point of contact, providing you with timely updates on the latest job opportunities within the industry. They will work closely with you to understand your career aspirations and help identify roles that align with your skills and interests.

Motor Vehicle, IMI Diploma

Led by expert teaching staff within our Automotive department, on this course you will develop your practical skills with access to fully equipped industry-standard workshops, including Hybrid and Electric vehicle specialty facilities.

What will I study?

Topics covered include:

  • Operating principles of petrol and diesel engines
  • Chassis systems including Steering, suspension and braking systems
  • Transmission systems including gearboxes, clutches, and final drive systems
  • Vehicle electrical systems including starting and charging.
  • Inspecting light vehicles using prescribed methods Simple fault diagnosis

Assessment Method

This course will include 9 online exams

Entry Requirements

To attend this course you will need a grade 4 in GCSE Maths and English and Science or a Level 1 Diploma in Motor Vehicle. Any other relevant practical experience can also be considered.

Work boots / Work Trousers / Black Polo shirt are required PPE and should be purchased before the start of the course (Unless claiming Bursary as this will be covered by Bursary)

Skills Bootcamp: Electric Vehicles

Upskill your automotive staff and future-proof your workforce!

Funded by the West of England Mayoral Combined Authority, this Electric Vehicle Skills Bootcamp runs over 10 weeks (day release, 1 day per week for 10 weeks) and equips your staff with the technical knowledge and practical skills to confidently and safely maintain and repair electric and hybrid vehicles.

Last week, Weston College opened its doors to new and returning students as they embarked on the start of the new academic year.  

Over three days, each CEH area welcomed first-year students with a wide variety of activities designed to help them settle in, build friendships, and get familiar with both their learning environment and the tools they’ll be using throughout their studies. 

Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair, Diploma

This programme will equip you with the skills and knowledge needed to diagnose, repair, and maintain a wide range of vehicles. Throughout the course you will learn essential tasks such as conducting vehicle inspections, carrying out routine maintenance procedures, identifying and resolving faults, and utilising diagnostic equipment.

On completion of the course, you will be well-prepared to embark on a rewarding career in the automotive industry, contributing to the safe and efficient operation of vehicles and delivering exceptional service to customers.

WHAT DOES THIS COURSE INVOLVE?

Topics covered include:

  • Diagnostics and rectification of auxiliary electrical faults

  • Diagnosing and rectification of engine faults,

  • Diagnosing and rectification of chassis,

  • Diagnosing and rectification of transmission, and driveline faults

  • Knowledge of inspecting light vehicles using prescribed methods

  • This course will include 4 online exams   

Course entry requirements

Must have a level 2 diploma in Motor Vehicle related subject for entry. This course is for learners who have completed a Level 2 Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair programme or equivalent.
