At Weston College, we understand how daunting it can be starting something unfamiliar, so we want to ensure you feel as supported as possible when you start with us in September.

Our college is committed to supporting you no matter your course or background. We offer personalised learning support across all campuses to tailor to individual needs, delivered by specialist staff with expertise in areas such as autism, ADHD, mental health, SpLD, hearing loss, and sight loss. Using a graduated response and the Assess–Plan–Do–Review process, we provide support in and out of the classroom. This may include assistive technology, learning adjustments, or wellbeing support, helping students progress towards their future goals.

At Weston College, we have a friendly Welfare and Wellbeing Team who will provide support and guidance about any concerns or issues you face throughout your time at college.

To ensure you have equal opportunities throughout your time at college, we offer financial support to students who are eligible depending on your individual circumstances, providing you with bursaries for essential kit, required equipment, and trips to further your learning.

At Weston College, we have excellent transport links to all three main campuses. Each site is accessible by road, train, and bus, with two train stations in Weston-super-Mare and nearby bus stops serving all campuses. As part of our commitment to environmental sustainability, we encourage staff and students to choose more eco-friendly travel options, helping to reduce environmental impact and benefit both the college community and the wider area.

Our Careers and Employability Team provide you with guidance on university, apprenticeships, CV writing, and next steps. They support industry placements, including T Level work placements, helping you find, prepare for, and reflect on opportunities. The team also ensures that you gain valuable experience, skills, and confidence for future careers.

Enrolment Week*: 24th – 28th August 2026

*Your enrolment appointment will take place at the College in the week beginning 24th August 2026. This is when you’ll come in with your GCSE results, collect your student ID and complete your final enrolment steps. You will receive an invite nearer the time.

At Weston College, we have many extra-curricular activities for you to involve yourself in outside of the classroom.

Whether you are interested in joining the Students’ Union (SU), taking part in a club or society that interests you, or joining the Sports Academy, we have opportunities for everyone.

Every student deserves to feel like they belong here. Whether it’s mental health resources, cultural representation, or financial accessibility, I will work tirelessly to make our campus a place where no one is left behind – regardless of background, identity, or circumstances.

 

If you are a full-time student, you will have many opportunities to go on trips throughout your time at Weston College. We encourage you to apply your classroom knowledge to real-world settings, meet industry professionals, and create memories and experiences that last beyond your college years.

Not only do you have opportunities to go on trips within your course, but Weston College has also been awarded a bursary through the Turing Scheme for next year to provide students with international opportunities. This is a global programme for studying and working abroad which enables students—especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds—to gain the confidence, skills, and international experience that employers value.

The funding will support placements this academic year in Canada, the USA, Indonesia, and Thailand, giving students the chance to immerse themselves in new cultures, develop global citizenship skills, and gain hands-on industry experience.

Last year, students had the opportunity to go to fantastic countries such as New York, Nashville, and Canada, providing them with unforgettable memories and developing their skills both personally and professionally.

The Students' Union (SU) is made up of Student Representatives and Student Executives to help drive improvements across the college, putting students first when important decisions are made and representing the student body.

Sam Lillywhite from Bra & Slaughter talking to the class

<p>A group of Year 1 <a class="ProsemirrorEditor-link" href="https://www.weston.ac.uk/what-can-i-study/courses-16-18-year-olds/compu… Design, Surveying, and Planning for Construction</u></a> learners recently welcomed two guest speakers, Sam Lillywhite and Katie Corbett, from the Bristol-based construction company, <strong>Bray &amp; Slaughter</strong>.&nbsp;</p><p>Sam Lillywhite, a Construction Management Apprentice, delivered an engaging and insightful presentation about his journey in the construction industry. He spoke about his path from leaving school to securing his current role at <strong>Bray &amp; Slaughter</strong>.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p><p>Along the way, Sam faced setbacks, including losing his job after his previous employer went into administration at the end of last year. However, through perseverance, professional connections, and determination, he was able to secure a new position with Bray &amp; Slaughter within just four weeks.&nbsp;</p><p>Sam also shared details about his current role on a regeneration project for <strong>North Somerset Council</strong>, located on the High Street in Weston-super-Mare. He described what a typical day looks like on site, offering students a clear picture of a career in construction management.&nbsp;</p><p>Following Sam’s presentation, Katie Corbett introduced herself and her role as the Social Value, Equality, Diversity; Inclusion (ED&amp;I) Manager at <strong>Bray &amp; Slaughter</strong>. She explained how her position was created in response to recent updates in the Government Procurement Act, which now requires public sector construction projects to incorporate more social value. This includes collaborating with local colleges and promoting apprenticeships.&nbsp;</p><p>The session concluded with a Q&amp;A, giving learners the opportunity to ask thoughtful and relevant questions, not only about the construction industry, but also about starting a professional career and adapting to unfamiliar roles. The students demonstrated maturity and curiosity, particularly in asking how to navigate uncertainty in new professional environments.&nbsp;</p><p>Daniel Comerford, one of our <a class="ProsemirrorEditor-link" href="https://www.weston.ac.uk/what-can-i-study/courses-16-18-year-olds/const… Professions</u></a> lecturers, reflected on the event, adding, “this presentation gave learners an amazing, first-hand insight into construction management from a young professional still early in his career. Sam and Katie offered honest, personal experiences and highlighted the importance of resilience when facing setbacks, something that can be difficult for young adults to fully grasp. Hearing it from peers closer to their age made it much more impactful.”&nbsp;</p><p>Thank you to both Sam and Katie for taking the time to come and talk to our <a class="ProsemirrorEditor-link" href="https://www.weston.ac.uk/what-can-i-study/courses-16-18-year-olds/compu…; learners and share their experiences. Sport students sat working on task sheets given by Marcus

<p>Last month, our <a href="https://www.weston.ac.uk/what-can-i-study/courses-16-18-year-olds/sport… and Fitness</a> students had the opportunity to attend an engaging workshop led by Sport Psychologist, Marcus Nel. The session offered valuable insight into the field of sport psychology, as Marcus shared his personal journey, answered industry-related questions, and delivered a dynamic workshop designed to deepen students' understanding of the career paths available to them.</p><p>Marcus Nel is a highly qualified Sport Psychologist known for his holistic and collaborative approach to enhancing mental resilience in athletes. His work bridges the mind-body connection to help individuals perform at their best. Currently a lecturer in Sport and Exercise Psychology at UWE Bristol, Marcus has also worked with organisations such as the Bristol Bears Rugby Club and Gloucester Cricket Club, delivering tailored psychological support to optimise performance and wellbeing.</p><p>During the workshop, Marcus introduced students to the core responsibilities of a sport psychologist and walked them through what a typical day in the profession looks like. He then moved into an interactive session designed to boost self-awareness. Students were asked to complete a performance profile, helping them reflect on their current mindset and individual strengths.</p><p>To explore the concept of anxiety, Marcus led students through an immersive task. First, they completed a questionnaire measuring different types of anxiety—somatic, cognitive, and self-confidence. Then, he surprised them with a challenge: they were told they would have to sing in front of the class. With this unexpected twist, students filled out the same questionnaire again, this time using a different coloured pen to highlight their emotional responses. This activity helped them connect theoretical concepts with real emotional experiences—nervousness, increased heart rate, sweaty palms—and better understand how anxiety can affect performance.</p><p>The session concluded with a Q&amp;A, where students were encouraged to ask in-depth questions. Marcus provided honest, insightful responses that gave a realistic perspective on working in the sport psychology field.</p><p>This workshop was a fantastic opportunity for students to explore alternative career paths they may not have previously considered. <p>Weston College learner, Gracie Donaghy, recently won the <a href="https://www.sparks-magazine.co.uk/sparks-female-skills-competition-2025… Female Skills Competition 2025</strong></a>! This apprenticeship has allowed her to develop skills in installing and testing cabling systems, containment, and a range of electrical components.</p><p>Gracie secured her place in the final of the competition after impressing the judges during the South Regional Heats and achieving first-place. Her precision and skill were demonstrated throughout both competitions, gaining recognition from her peers and competitors as well as the judges for her excellent accuracy, time-management and attention to detail.</p><p>Having taken part in the competition last year, Gracie came into this year’s event with a clear goal to beat her previous performance. She dedicated time to practicing installations that she felt less confident with, including lighting circuits and unfamiliar wiring setups.</p><p>After winning the South Regional Heats and securing her place in the final, Gracie added, “During the competition, I felt very nervous as I wanted to do well and demonstrate my best work. After the competition, I felt very proud of the work I had completed. Gracie was stunned when she not only received the amazing title of <strong>SPARKS Female Skills Winner 2025</strong>, but she also got a range of tools and goodies and a fantastic cash prize to put towards her future.</p><p>The <strong>SPARKS Female Skills Competition</strong> is a great way for young females from all over the country to show their skills and compete with likeminded individuals. Competitions like these encourage future generations to take up trades courses and break down stereotypes in largely male-dominated subject areas.</p><p>Gracie also highlighted the fantastic benefits to the competition, saying, “it gives you a chance to meet others going through the same journey, and to push yourself to see what you can achieve under time constraints.”</p><p>Andy Fisher, one of our Electrotechnical Lecturers, has worked closely with Gracie throughout her time at Weston College, saying "Gracie is an exceptional student who works extremely hard in every task she completes. Her place in the final reflects the quality of work she produces. She is always millimetre perfect and very tidy with her installations and has always been such a pleasure to teach.</p><p>"As a lecturer, it’s an amazing competition to get the chance to attend with them and you can tell it means a lot to them too. She dedicated time to practicing installations that she felt less confident with, including lighting circuits and unfamiliar wiring setups.</p><p>After winning the South Regional Heats and securing her place in the final, Gracie added, “During the competition, I felt very nervous as I wanted to do well and demonstrate my best work. After the competition, I felt very proud of the work I had completed. Gracie was stunned when she not only received the amazing title of <strong>SPARKS Female Skills Winner 2025</strong>, but she also got a range of tools and goodies and a fantastic cash prize to put towards her future.</p><p>The <strong>SPARKS Female Skills Competition</strong> is a great way for young females from all over the country to show their skills and compete with likeminded individuals. Competitions like these encourage future generations to take up trades courses and break down stereotypes in largely male-dominated subject areas.</p><p>Gracie also highlighted the fantastic benefits to the competition, saying, “it gives you a chance to meet others going through the same journey, and to push yourself to see what you can achieve under time constraints.”</p><p>Andy Fisher, one of our Electrotechnical Lecturers, has worked closely with Gracie throughout her time at Weston College, saying "Gracie is an exceptional student who works extremely hard in every task she completes. Her place in the final reflects the quality of work she produces. She is always millimetre perfect and very tidy with her installations and has always been such a pleasure to teach.</p><p>"As a lecturer, it’s an amazing competition to get the chance to attend with them and you can tell it means a lot to them too.
