Whether you choose a music production or performance course, you’ll get to hone your talents and practise your skills in one of our three recording studios. You don’t need to be an experienced musician – we offer courses from Level 1, right up to degree level.
Revenue generated by the UK’s live music is growing. It’s estimated to contribute £4bn a year to the economy with jobs increasing 19% each year. Music is an exciting and varied subject that lets you explore your passion and creativity. There are more jobs available in the music industry than you might think, and a qualification in music could lead to a variety of well-paid careers including music performance, music production and teaching.

<p>Last week saw Weston College and UCW's Creative Arts Summer Show - a vibrant event that showcased the creativity and talent of our learners! This event proved to be a fantastic outing, featuring live music, artwork, fashion, film, and delicious locally sourced food and drinks – demonstrating the artistic spirit and youthful energy of our Creative Arts learners.</p><p>The opening night featured a silent disco, live music performances, and food vendors, setting a vibrant tone for the days to follow!</p><p>Thursday continued the festivities with the same excitement as the opening night, enhanced by a radio masterclass, a music video showcase, and a Candar radio interview.</p><p>Friday, the longest day of the event, featured a media documentary showcase, another radio masterclass, a media short film showcase, community classes in ceramics and print, an LGBTQ+ prom, a pride silent disco and live music, along with the ever-popular food vendors.</p><p>Finally, Saturday wrapped up the event with professional industry talks at the Bristol Old Vic by Faye Elvin, who provided invaluable insights into preparing for drama school auditions and navigating the industry as a new graduate.</p><p>We received lots of positive feedback from learners, including Finn who expressed that he found the experience fun and was particularly pleased to see Shungite perform.</p><p>Dan said he revelled in the nice weather and festival vibes and enjoyed seeing Degree perform at the pavilion!</p><p>Festival goer Josh said that he and his family had a wonderful time at the event on Saturday, and he is looking forward to returning next year!</p><p>The summer show offered a unique opportunity to immerse in the dynamic arts scene of Weston College and UCW and support the next generation of creative professionals. Thank you to everyone who joined us in celebrating the incredible talents of our learners!</p>

<p data-pm-slice="1 1 []">Last night marked another triumphant showcase for the talented Weston College Music students. Thanks to a special agreement with the venue owner, students took to the stage once again at The Electric Banana. </p><p>Throughout the evening, students not only captivated the audience with their performances but also played a crucial role in setting up the stage and managing transitions between the nine acts scheduled for the night. This hands-on experience showcased their musical talents and helped to highlight their professionalism and technical skills. </p><p>The diverse lineup of performers underscored the eclectic personalities and skillsets built by the music courses. Oz students' interpretations of timeless classics left a lasting impression on attendees, showcasing the enduring relevance of musical expression across generations. </p><p>Once again, our students have proven themselves as rising stars in the music scene, leaving their mark on Weston's vibrant cultural landscape! </p><p data-pm-slice="1 1 []">This performance forms part of the <a href="https://www.weston.ac.uk/ceh-creative">Creative Arts</a> Careers Excellence Hub. The College has fourteen sector-specific Career Excellence Hubs, which evidence our dedication to supporting both employers and learners in achieving their future goals. <p style="margin-bottom:8px;margin-left:0;margin-top:0px;"><span style="font-size:inherit;">Last week we were extremely pleased to welcome Iain ‘Robbo’ Robertson to our Loxton Campus for an exciting guest lecture. Iain has years of experience in the music industry, allowing him to give students a direct insight into the music industry and how it works. </span></p><p style="margin-bottom:8px;margin-left:0;margin-top:0px;"><span style="font-size:inherit;">Iain worked as a Tour Manager, a key role in the music industry which means looking after all of the musicians and crew while on the road. This role includes communicating with concert producers and venues to coordinate sound check and set times. On top of this, a Tour Manager will often look after the band's hospitality needs and ensure that the artist's rider requests are met. </span></p><p style="margin-bottom:8px;margin-left:0;margin-top:0px;"><span style="font-size:inherit;">Some of the artists that Iain has managed tours for include Gary Moore, BB King, Spandau Ballet, Sisters of Mercy and even Oasis! He is now Managing our very own alumni Alex Lipinski who a rising star on the Music scene! Iain was able to give learners knowledge, insights and tell riveting stories about tour management. This helped our learners to learn the realities of an ever changing, fascinating and wonderful industry. </span></p><p style="margin-bottom:8px;margin-left:0;margin-top:0px;"><span style="font-size:inherit;">Oz Cahill, one of the music instructors at Weston College organised the guest lecture and had this to say: “One of the most important and valuable opportunities for our learners is to connect with genuine industry professionals. It was a real privilege to have Iain Robertson, an Industry Legend, give us his time in the Music Department of Weston College.” </span></p><p style="margin-bottom:8px;margin-left:0;margin-top:0px;"><span style="font-size:inherit;">This guest speaker forms part of the Creative Arts Careers Excellence Hub. At Weston College our approach goes beyond the traditional classroom setting. Through industry speakers, workshops, employer projects, and more, we equip our learners with the real-world experiences and insights that set them apart in the competitive job market.
