Over 50 local children from nurseries, primary schools and childminders experienced a range of activities in Grove Park on Thursday (Art in the Park) and went home with a bag of their creations.

Learners from Level 1 to Level 3 Early Years courses planned and presented activities to encourage creativity in the outdoors.

“I started at college last month and this was our first big children’s activity. I really enjoyed it, it’s interesting to see how children use the same equipment and the differences in their creativity.” Grace, Level 3 BTEC Extended National Diploma in Children’s Play Learning and Development (previously from Hans Price Academy).

Gergana from Little Angels Weston said “We want to say a big thank you to all of you for inviting us to the Art event in the Grove Park today. All of the children and staff were so happy to join the event today! It was really well organised and all of us felt very welcome to come and join”

Karen, Early Years Subject Area Manager said “Thank you to the children and staff of Christchurch Primary School and Little Angels Weston. The children who attended the event were well-behaved and enthusiastic in joining in with all the activities. Also, a special thank you to Friends of Grove Park for their support today. Our local community is massively important to Early Years learners at Weston College. We want to get involved in making Weston the best place for children to grow and thrive.

Across the haunting season of Halloween, learners have been busy striking fear in the hearts of anyone who dared to enter Puxton Park's Phobia Event.

Learners from our Performing Arts department put their impressive skills into practice by frightening visitors as they made their way round Puxton's spectacular spooky sets. As if they weren't scary enough already, actors were dressed head to toe in horrifying hair and make-up with incredible costumes to match.

The flawless hair and make-up was all thanks to learners from Hair and Make-up for Fashion and Media and Hair, Make-up and Special Effects for Film and Theatre as well as help from University Centre Weston learners from Hair, Make-up and Prosthetics for Production.

Puxton Park Marketing Manager, Grace Harvey, commented “Phobia is an exciting opportunity for all of us here at Puxton Park.

"Not only is this new event allowing us to open our doors to a broader demographic of visitors but it’s also allowing us to work with the extremely talented teams at Weston College.

"We have been so impressed with the exceptionally high level of professionalism and skills that these students possess.

"The passion and enthusiasm that they hold in their respective fields of study, has really shined during our rehearsals and we were so excited to see all of their hard work come to life during the event.”

Thanks also goes to the brilliant work from Public Services for assisting on the night and to the Music department who helped to create an eerie atmosphere with help from performers and sound engineering.

One Message, Different Voices

The film shares heartfelt stories and interviews with a diverse group of staff, showing how accepting different identities and backgrounds can make a big difference. Its purpose is to encourage viewers to think about their own biases and work towards making our community more welcoming to all. Halo workplace logo

Our workplace champions the right of staff to embrace all Afro-hairstyles. We acknowledge that Afro-textured hair is an important part of our Black employees’ racial, ethnic, cultural, and religious identities, and requires specific styling for hair health and maintenance. We celebrate Afro-textured hair worn in all styles including, but not limited to, afros, locs, twists, braids, cornrows, fades, hair straightened through the application of heat or chemicals, weaves, wigs, headscarves, and wraps. In this workplace, we recognise and celebrate our colleagues’ identities. We are a community built on an ethos of equality and respect where hair texture and style have no bearing on an employee's ability to succeed.
