Weston College has made it into the prestigious Sunday Times 100 Best Companies to Work For list.

The College was the highest ranked College in the list and was placed 28th in the not-for-for profit category in the whole of the UK.

The Sunday Times 100 list is regarded as the Oscars of employee engagement. The 2019 places were announced at a glitzy awards ceremony held at the Battersea Evolution, London on Wednesday 20th February.

Dr Paul Phillips CBE, Principal and Chief Executive of Weston College, said: “To be included in such a prestigious roll of honour at the Sunday Times 100 List is a major achievement and testament to the emphasis we place on putting our staff at the heart of the business.

“Employee engagement and investment are among our highest priorities. This award reflects those priorities, as well as the commitment and dedication our people give us in return.

The College won a place in the list after a comprehensive staff survey carried out by ‘Best Companies’, who compile the Sunday Times List. The survey gathered the views of Weston College employees across eight key factors including wellbeing, pay and benefits, personal growth and the strength of leadership at the College.

Organisations in the not-for-profit category must employ at least 50 employees, and achieve one of the highest 100 highest survey scores in the category. They must also be either a charity, an organisation set up for community benefit, a public sector organisation, or a Community Interest Company (CIC).

Weston College now provides a range of accredited scaffold training courses at our Construction Training Centre in Weston-super-Mare. Scaffolder courses are available from entry level (COTS) and scaffolding apprenticeships through to CISRS Part 2 scaffolding courses. The training centre features a state-of-the-art 10 metre high, 1000m2 indoor practical area, allowing trainee scaffolders the chance to get hands on in a safe, dry environment.

Scaffolders looking to upskill have a range of options including our supervisor courses and scaffold inspection training. We also provide non-core courses for general workforce competence, including short duration training on critical areas such as scaffold anchor testing, harness inspection, SG4, TG20 and manual handling.

Amazing aromas filled the Bistro recently as Knightstone Campus staff enjoyed a selection of soup, rolls and hot drinks in aid of Weston-super-Mare Food Bank.

In order to attend 'The Hunger Lunch' midday treat, staff bought tickets in advance costing just £1.50.

Whilst digging in, staff also had the chance to speak to union officers as well as representatives from our numerous green initiatives. This included information on our staff electric bike and North Somerset Travel, showing staff how they might be able to alter their journey into work and reduce their carbon footprints!

Overall, £70 was raised for the Weston Food Bank along with a whole box full of food items was donated in the process.

A massive thank-you to staff welfare officer, Gill, for arranging the successful session as well as to all those who attended and donated generously.
