IT For Beginners

Increase your knowledge and develop your IT skills! This 3-week course is designed for anyone who struggles using I.T and would like to build confidence in using Digital technology in everyday life.

What will I study?

The course covers the following topics with full tutor support throughout –

  • Computer basics for daily tasks

  • Use Universal Credit Journal for Job Search Progress

  • Set up and regularly use email for online communication

  • Build confidence using a keyboard and organising files

Accounting, AAT Certificate

This AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) course is an entry-level accounting qualification, ideal for anyone who is seeking an introduction to basic accounting principles and skills.

Course Overview

This qualification will prepare you for junior and entry level accounting roles. It delivers a solid foundation in finance administration - covering areas such as double entry bookkeeping, basic costing principles and using accounting software. The Level 2 course covers a range of key areas, including:

  • Introduction to bookkeeping
  • Principles of bookkeeping
  • Principles of costing
  • The business environment

Study method

The course is in college, face to face and further study at home will be required through our online portal. ## How will I be assessed?

This course is assessed through computer-based exams throughout the year and a synoptic assessment.

Entry requirements

GCSE grade 4 or higher for Maths and English

Progression

On successful completion of this course, you can progress to higher levels of the AAT Accounting Qualifications (Level 3 and then on to Level 4). Under the Free Courses for Jobs initiative, you might be eligible for a fully funded Level 3 course. Alternatively, you can apply for an advanced learner loan to cover the cost of your Level 3 study. Please ask a member of college staff for more information.

Career opportunities

The skills and knowledge you will gain throughout this qualification will qualify you for roles including Accounts Assistant, Finance Assistant, Credit Control Assistant or Purchase Ledger Clerk.

Additional information

As part of this course you will need to become a member of the AAT at the start of the course and take out professional membership with them to be a studying member. This can be done online directly with the AAT and will be an additional cost to the course fees. The cost of this is approximately £187.

Award in Life and Living Skills 19+

The Independent Living Skills Programme is designed for adults with complex needs (SEND) who wish to continue developing the independent living and life skills needed for everyday life within the community.

Delivered over 15 weeks, the programme provides four hours of personalised learning each week in small group settings. Sessions are led by specialist SEND lecturers and supported by experienced support workers, ensuring an individualised and supportive approach that promotes confidence, independence, and transferable life skills.

On this adult programme, learners will:

  • Co-create personalised independent living and life skills goals to work towards throughout the programme, with a focus on applying these skills in everyday life.
  • Develop engagement, confidence, independence, and positive communication and interaction skills through a range of structured learning activities.
  • Work towards achieving the OCR Entry Level Award in Life and Living Skills (Entry Levels 2 and 3).

OCR topics on this course, include:

  • Communication – engaging and managing social relationships
  • Accessing the local community around Weston College and Knightstone Campus
  • Personal Skills – Working as part of a group
  • Home Management – Cooking and shopping

You will not need to pay for this course. However, there will be opportunities to engage in community enrichment which will come at a small cost.

This practical 6‑hour course is designed for people with an idea – or simply the ambition – who want to understand what it really takes to set up and run a business.

This qualification will prepare you for employment as a junior hairdresser or stylist.

City & Guilds Level 2 Diploma in Electrical Installations (Buildings and Structures)
