Course Overview
The Level 2 Bricklaying Technical Diploma is designed for learners who want to build on their existing skills and prepare for a successful career in construction. You'll develop advanced bricklaying techniques while expanding your knowledge of construction methods, technical drawing interpretation, health and safety, and professional working practices.
Training takes place at Weston College's South West Skills Campus, where you'll learn in purpose-built workshops, outdoor construction areas, and industry-standard facilities using professional tools and equipment. You'll also benefit from work experience opportunities and membership of our Construction Career Excellence Hub, providing employer networking, industry visits, guest speakers, and career-focused activities to help you become work ready.
What will I study?
You'll develop practical and technical skills in:
• Health and safety in construction
• Advanced bricklaying tools and equipment
• Brick types and their applications
• Advanced mortar mixing and application techniques
• Complex bricklaying patterns, including arches
• Constructing brick piers and cavity walls
• Advanced brickwork structures and techniques
• Reading and interpreting technical drawings
• Pointing and finishing techniques
• Brickwork maintenance and repair
• Construction maths and English development
How will I be assessed?
Assessment includes:
• Practical workshop assessments
• On-site project work
• Written assignments and technical knowledge tests
• A portfolio demonstrating your practical skills and competency

If you have not yet achieved GCSE Grade 4 or Level 2 Functional Skills in English and/or maths, you'll receive additional support alongside your main programme.
Entry Requirements
• Level 1 Bricklaying qualification
• GCSEs at grades 9–3, including English and maths
• A genuine interest in construction and practical learning
What can I do after this course?
Successful completion can lead to:
• Employment as a Bricklayer
• Construction Operative roles
• Building restoration and maintenance careers
• Progression to Site Supervisor roles following further training
