Course Overview

The Fashion T Level is a vocational qualification that combines classroom learning with industry placements, giving you hands-on experience in the fashion world. You’ll develop technical and creative skills in fashion design, textile development, and garment production, while also learning about sustainability, fashion business, and trend forecasting.

This course is perfect for anyone passionate about clothing, trends, marketing, and styling. You’ll explore fashion design, production, digital media, communication, and retailing, learning how to take a design from concept to finished garment and understand how it is produced, promoted, and sold.

You’ll have access to dedicated studio spaces and the latest Adobe Creative Cloud software, including InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop, providing essential tools for digital design and garment development.

Our studios are equipped with sewing machines, cutting tables, pattern drafting tools, and textile printing facilities. You’ll also benefit from guest lectures, company visits, and participation in fashion events, helping you gain a real understanding of professional practice. The Level 3, two-year programme is ideal for learners aiming to progress into apprenticeships or higher education.

As a Weston College student, you will join one of our Career Excellence Hubs, giving you career-boosting opportunities and helping you become fully career-ready.

T Levels offer a high-quality technical alternative to A Levels, developed with employers to ensure you gain the skills the industry values. Each T Level is equivalent to three A Levels, reflecting the depth and thoroughness of the qualification.

What will I study?

  • Fashion design and illustration
  • Garment construction and pattern cutting
  • Textile design and surface embellishment
  • Fabric manipulation and printing techniques
  • Fashion industry knowledge and sustainability
  • Trend forecasting and creative project development
  • Professional practice and portfolio creation

How will I be assessed?

T Level Fashion assessments combine core knowledge with practical industry skills. Core knowledge is assessed through exams, while occupational skills are evaluated through employer-set projects. Students also complete a mandatory industry placement, giving them hands-on experience in a real work environment.

In the second year, learners sit two exams covering the fashion and textiles industry, including analysis and application of their knowledge. They also complete a practical project, researching trends, exploring the work of other designers, and creating their own fashion outcomes.

The combination of exams, projects, and placement determines the overall T Level grade, which can be pass, merit, distinction, or distinction.
