Develop the practical accounting skills employers need while earning a wage. This Level 3 apprenticeship combines workplace experience with flexible study, preparing you for a successful career in finance, bookkeeping, or accounting.
Course Overview
This apprenticeship is delivered in partnership with Mindful Education and combines on-the-job training with support from Weston College, allowing you to gain valuable workplace experience while completing guided online learning and tutor-led workshops. Working within a finance team, you'll apply your learning to tasks such as ledger management, reconciliations, financial reporting, and financial administration.
You'll build a strong understanding of advanced accounting principles, including double-entry bookkeeping, management accounting, VAT, final accounts, costing, financial processes, and ethical practice. You'll also develop valuable digital skills through the use of accounting software, spreadsheets, and business communication tools, ensuring you're fully prepared for a career in modern finance.
Delivered through a flexible blended learning model, the course combines online lessons with regular tutor-led sessions, either on campus or virtually, helping you apply theory to real workplace situations. As a Weston College apprentice, you'll also become part of our Career Excellence Hub, giving you access to employer networking, industry events, guest speakers, and career-enhancing opportunities.
What will I study?
• Advanced bookkeeping and double-entry accounting
• Preparing financial statements and reports
• Management accounting principles
• VAT, payroll, and compliance procedures
• Using accounting software and Excel for finance tasks
• Budgeting, forecasting, and cost analysis
• Business communication and professional development
How will I be assessed?
Assessment includes:
• Synoptic end test covering knowledge and skills
• Practical workplace observation
• Portfolio of evidence demonstrating knowledge, skills, and behaviours
• Online examinations and scenario-based projects
• Reflective discussions based on workplace practice

Entry Requirements
• You must be employed in a relevant accounting role
• Five GCSEs, including English and maths at Grade 5/C, or Functional Skills Level 2 in English and maths
• Good keyboarding skills
• A sound knowledge of Microsoft Office
• An AAT Level 2 Foundation Certificate in Accounting is advantageous but not essential
What can I do after this course?
Successful completion could lead to:
• Level 4 Accounting Technician Apprenticeship
• AAT Level 4 Diploma in Professional Accounting
• Employment as an Accounts Officer, Assistant Accountant, Payroll Officer, Finance Administrator, or Finance Analyst
• Higher education in accounting, finance, or business management
