Health & Social Care Pathway, Vocational Studies

This course is designed as an introduction to Health and Social Care, delivering a solid foundation for individuals interested in making a positive impact in the lives of others. Through a combination of theoretical learning and practical training, you will gain an understanding of healthcare principles, ethical considerations, and patient-centred care.

What will you study?

You will cover a range of topics and get involved in projects and activities designed to build your confidence and give you a real insight into the careers within Health and Social Care.

Access to HE Diploma (Nursing, Midwifery & Allied Professions)

This course is designed for people aged 19 or over years and is perfect for anyone looking to start a career in nursing, midwifery or any of the allied health professions, or considering changing careers to work in these fields.

A career in any nursing and midwifery-focussed profession empowers you to help people, working in a variety of positions and a wide choice of specialties.

Preparing to Work in Health and Care

This ten-day virtual online course is designed to equip participants with the essential knowledge to further explore jobs within Health and Care. Looking at specific roles within Care and Medical environments such as working within the NHS.

Key Topics include:

  • Introduction to Health and Care

  • Roles and responsibilities working in health and care

  • Nutrition and health management for health and care

  • Self-Development – Building Confidence and Self Esteem

  • Career Planning

Understanding Autism, Certificate

The Level 3 Certificate in Understanding Autism is aimed at support staff working with people on the autism spectrum in a voluntary or paid capacity, and for family members/carers who want to develop their knowledge, skills and understanding of autism to support progression to employment, career development and/or on to further qualifications. The course will give you the opportunity to learn and share best practice from across the sector.

Course Overview

  • 20-week online programme
  • 3 hours per week teaching via Teams (Thursday evenings 5pm to 8pm)
  • An additional 4 hours a week independent study to fit around home and work commitments.
  • Each week you will have access to our Autism Café - an informal virtual space to ask questions, advice and guidance on autism specific to your practice/life environment.

The course is delivered by specialist practitioners from Weston College’s nationally recognised Specialist Support Provision, all of whom are highly trained and experienced in delivering high quality autism support and promoting an inclusive, person-centred ethical approach.

The course consists of 5 units:

  • Understand the diagnosis and management of autism
  • Understand best practice in the context of autism
  • Legislation, guidance, information and support relevant to autism
  • Autism and behaviour
  • Living with autism in society

    Whilst this course provides the perfect progression from our current L2 in Understanding Autism it is accessible as direct entry without prior autism qualifications.

Entry Requirements

Level 2 or equivalent in maths and English.

RAG Week Raises Over £5000 for Local Charities

This year’s Raising and Giving Week (RAG Week) at Weston College was a great example of collaboration across all subject areas. With the theme of ‘Flower Power’, the college came together to raise money for two incredible local charities: Weston Hospicecare and The Grand Appeal.
