Throughout this term, Weston College have hosted a series of Employer Advisory Boards and Industry Forums across a wide range of sectors. These events play a vital role in ensuring the College’s curriculum remains closely aligned with current and emerging industry needs, helping learners develop the skills, behaviours and knowledge required to succeed in the workplace.

Understanding Autism Spectrum Conditions and ADHD: A Path to Informed Awareness

This 1-week Virtual course is designed to give you more awareness and understanding of Autism and ADHD.

The course explains how ideas about autism and ADHD theories have evolved and explores diagnosis, causes and common misconceptions associated with autism and ADHD as well as conditions that can co-occur.

Skills for Emergency First Aid in the Workplace

Emergency first aid saves lives - being prepared can make all the difference in a crisis. In the workplace, quick action can prevent minor injuries from being major emergencies, a vital skill that keeps everyone safer.

Throughout this course you will learn both theoretical and practical skills in administering Emergency First Aid with particular emphasis on practical skills and application.

Skills Bootcamp: ESOL Vocational – Health & Social Care

Build your English and step confidently into a career in care.

Funded by the West of England Mayoral Combined Authority, this 4-week Skills Bootcamp supports individuals with English as a second language (ESOL) to develop the communication, language, and employability skills needed to start a career in the health and social care sector.

Delivered face-to-face over three days per week, this free course combines practical healthcare insight, tailored English language development, and career preparation — including an interview with a local employer.

Social Care, BTEC Extended Diploma

The Social Care BTEC Extended Diploma is a comprehensive programme designed to provide students with a solid foundation in the field of social care. This engaging and practical course offers a deep understanding of the principles, theories, and practices involved in supporting individuals with diverse needs. Throughout the diploma, you will develop key skills and knowledge necessary for working in various social care settings, such as residential care homes, community outreach programs, or disability services. You will have two pathway options in year 2 – Health Care and Social Care. These allow you to take a tailored approach to your career and select the best opportunities for progression. Year 1 of this qualification will provide you with the theoretical and practical underpinnings for your chosen industry pathway in year 2.

With a strong emphasis on hands-on learning, you will have the opportunity to apply your knowledge through work placements and practical assessments. By completing the Social Care BTEC Extended Diploma, you will be well-prepared to pursue a fulfilling career in the social care sector.

You'll become part of our Health and Social Care Career Excellence Hub and enjoy a host of career-boosting benefits and unrivalled access to potential employers. You will benefit from work experience opportunities with key local care providers, engaging trips and tours, guest lectures from industry experts and courses designed in collaboration with employers to meet industry demands. You'll gain invaluable industry insight and numerous networking opportunities. By the time you complete your training, you'll be fully prepared for a career in Health and Social Care, armed with the skills and knowledge that employers value. ## WHAT DOES THIS COURSE INVOLVE

The two-year programme will develop your knowledge and practical skills in a wide range of industry subjects. Units include anatomy and physiology, development through the life stages, safe practice, research methods, dementia care, mental health, psychological perspectives, sociological perspectives and working with additional needs.

As part of this study programme, you will develop your maths, English, and digital skills, attend tutorials and Sim practical sessions. You will also complete industry work placements and build a vocational portfolio over the two-year programme. This gives you the opportunity to gain your care certificate. All aspects of your study programme will be discussed at your interview.

ASSESSMENT METHOD

We’ll assess your coursework (projects, assignments, and presentations) and your practical activities both in college and at your industry placement. There are also four exams over the two years.

FUTURE OPPORTUNITIES

This programme will enable you to progress to the degree in Integrated Mental Health and Social Care or Health and Social Care Practice at University Centre Weston. Alternatively, you can progress to university in health or social care related fields, or gain employment in a variety of areas, including youth work, family support worker, home care social worker, counselling, or personal care assistants. ## ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

5 GCSE’s including English or Maths at a 4, and a 4 in science, preferably biology. If they are resitting English or Maths, grade on entry must be a 3. English language is a requirement at a 3 for resit, or 4 for exemption.

T Level Progression Routes

It’s T Levels Week so we want to discuss the different progression routes students can take after completing a T Level and the benefits they have on future careers. 

T Levels were officially launched in September 2020 but have already proved to be an excellent pathway for many learners, allowing them to progress onto apprenticeships, degree apprenticeships, university and full-time employment.
