The Autocare Technician Apprenticeship combines practical, on-the-job training with classroom and online learning at Weston College’s South West Skills Campus. You’ll spend most of your time gaining hands-on experience in a real automotive environment, supported by structured study to reinforce your understanding of vehicle systems, maintenance, and repair techniques.
At Weston, you’ll train in modern, purpose-built workshops that include two industry-standard workshops, hybrid and electric vehicle facilities, and commercial vehicle bays. These workshops provide a safe environment to develop practical skills using diagnostic tools, measuring instruments, and specialist automotive equipment under the guidance of experienced tutors.
Throughout the programme, you will work on cars, car-derived vans, and light goods vehicles, learning essential skills such as vehicle inspections, routine maintenance, fault diagnosis, and repairs across engines, brakes, steering, suspension, and electrical systems. You will also gain experience in workshop procedures, stock management, and IT systems used in automotive workplaces.
As part of your apprenticeship, you will benefit from trips to factories, motorsport events, and workshops, as well as guest lectures from industry professionals.
You will also automatically join Weston’s Engineering Career Excellence Hub, providing networking opportunities, career-focused activities, and additional exposure to employers in the automotive sector.
By the end of the programme, you will have gained the practical skills, technical knowledge, and employability experience required to progress into Level 3 courses, higher apprenticeships, or entry-level roles in the automotive industry.
