If you have a passion for designing and creating immersive environments and captivating characters for video games, film, and the web, then this course is perfect for you. This programme provides essential design and production skills to succeed in this exciting field.
What will I study?
Throughout the course, you will explore a diverse range of topics, including:
2D artwork Character, creature, and environment design 3D character, environment, and prop modelling Rigging and animation Lighting and rendering Digital painting Game design and narrative Storyboarding and life drawing
Taught by experienced industry professionals, you will develop both technical and interpersonal skills to improve your employability.
The course uses industry-standard tools and software in our classrooms, with access to high-spec gaming PCs.
Assessment Method
A variety of assessment methods will be used to develop relevant skills in preparation for a career in the Game and Animation sector including:
- Individual and group projects
- Essays
- Presentations
- Creative works.
- No formal exams, but strong writing ability is essential for conveying creative ideas and project intentions.
Entry Requirements
- Five GCSEs at grades 9-4, including an art-related subject and English, or a qualifying Level 2 qualification (Merit).
- A strong portfolio of work and successful interview with faculty required.
- Keen interest in:
- Game development, animation, anime, character design, environment design, digital painting, 3D modelling, rigging, game mechanics, storyboarding, and interactive media.
- Enthusiasm for video games, anime-inspired art, or 3D design is highly beneficial.
- Not necessary to have experience in:
- Game design or animation, but experience with Adobe Photoshop,
- Autodesk Maya, Blender, or Unity is a bonus.
- Drawing skills or an understanding of game design principles are valuable assets.
What can this course lead to?
- Higher education or employment in roles such as junior animator, 3D artist, or game developer.
- You may also progress to a degree in areas like computer animation, video game development, or art and design.
