Gain skills for work and life! As an introduction into the industry, this flexible course will give you the basic skills and knowledge in hairdressing to take you to the next level.
What will I study?
During this course learners will learn:
- Follow Health and Safety in the Salon
- Shampoo and Condition Hair
- Styling Women’s Hair
- Colour Hair using Temporary Colour
- Providing Basic Manicure Treatment
- Nail Art Application
At the start of the academic year Students will participate in a residential trip, focused on team building and self-development.
Alongside elements of hair and beauty, students will get the opportunity to work on skills needed for work and life, this could include practical activities, goal setting, time management and reflecting on personal strengths.
The new level 1 programme allows learners to explore multiple vocational routes before choosing a specific pathway. For example, an applicant could start with hair and beauty, but also trial Hospitality and Construction throughout the year.
Learners should be aware that they will have to experience all services this includes having hair washed and treated although please reassure that block heads will be used during the early stages of the course.
How will I be assessed?
There are theory examinations for this course and practical assessments where you will have multiple opportunities to achieve.
Entry Requirements

GCSE Grade 2 or above in Maths and English

Please be sure applicants are aware of the mandatory requirement of kit and uniform by week 2.

Maths and English expectation of study until GCSE grade 4 has been achieved this is 3 hours of English and 3 hours of maths per week (where appropriate) on top of core timetable.
Progressions
Completion of the level 1 with success in core and vocational unites provides a pathway to level 2 Hair or Beauty
Uniform Information
Kit and Uniform links will be provided during enrolment, but learners must know that a bursary application and/or a £100 deposit will be required prior to week one on programme. Without these learners will not be able to remain on course

Timetable
Completely variable, usually 3 or 4 days per week, can include an evening at level 3.
