This technical diploma is a high-level, hands-on course for learners passionate about a career in hairdressing. You’ll develop skills in client care, consultation, shampooing, conditioning, cutting, styling, and colouring, working with real clients from week five. With practical and theory exams, plus 37 hours of work experience, this course builds the expertise, confidence, and professionalism needed to progress to Level 3 or begin a career as a junior stylist.
What will I study?
This course is a technical diploma which is a higher level than a standard diploma, there is a high expectation placed on learners with this course due to its externally set examinations and assessments.

Learners will be working on clients by week 5, this is a compulsory element of the course.

Learners should be aware that they will have to experience all services this includes having hair washed, cut and coloured although please reassure that block heads will be used during the early stages of the course.
We do not offer a Hair extension unit, but the faculty will run enrichment sessions on Hair extension
How will I be assessed?
There will be multiple practical exams where employers and lecturers will grade the service being provided on a client that is unknown to the learner. Each assessment is graded pass, merit and distinction which accrues points. There are two theory exams, one in Jan and one in April. Commitment is key and holidays should not be taken due to the fast past and technical nature of the course.
Entry Requirements
- A minimum of maths and English at GCSE grade 3 or above and/or functional skills level 1.
- Maths and English expectation of study until GCSE grade 4 has been achieved this is 3 hours of English and 3 hours of maths per week (where appropriate) on top of core timetable.
Progressions
- Learners on this course would be advised to study level 3 after completion of this course although could enter industry with a level 2 as a junior stylist.
Work Experience
There are 37 hours of work experience on this course.
Uniform Information
Kit and Uniform links will be provided during enrolment, but learners must know that a bursary application and/or a £100 deposit will be required prior to week one on programme. Without these learners will not be able to remain on course.

Completely variable, usually 3 or 4 days per week, can include an evening at level 3.
