Experience working in a social care setting, and regular employer-led sessions to support you to explore different areas of the sector. This course is focused on developing vital knowledge and skills to prepare you for future study.
What will I study?
You will cover core content such as equality and diversity, safeguarding and person-centred care.
Two pathways (flavours) form part of the Health and Social Care course. ALL students will study ALL parts of H&SC but students may choose to specialise in a preferred area further into their studies: The pathways (flavours as we like to call them) are below:
**Transitional Health Science Future career paths in the Healthcare sector. (For example, Nurse, paramedic, nursing assistant, medical practitioner)
You will learn about human growth and development, safeguarding and protection, equality and diversity in practice, mental health and wellbeing, and social care values.
You will attend work placements in a diverse range of settings and get first-hand experience of the professional roles that provide healthcare.
Social Care Future career paths in the Social Care sector. (for example, Social worker, care worker, residential warden)
You will learn about dementia awareness, person-centered care, administration of medication, human growth and mental health.
You will attend work placements in a diverse range of settings and get first-hand experience of the professional roles that provide care.
How will you be assessed?
Written coursework, projects, presentations and practical experiences.
Placement has no set hours as it is not required, placement opportunities are catered to individual learners and the aspirations they have
A 5 week diagnostic period will be held to ensure students are put on the right course for them.
Entry Requirements
- 3 GCSE’s, with at least a 3 in English, preferably language, and Maths.
- A clear DBS to allow for placement-students
- Interest in working in the health and social care sector
Potential Progression
T-Level for career in the health sector, BTEC L3 for Social Care.
Uniform Information
Kit will be clarified during induction; we do not expect them to buy this before.

4-5 days a week, 9-4.45.
