Health & Social Care, NCFE Extended Diploma
The course is designed to support your progression into a health or social care career, such as midwifery or a social worker. You will have a mandatory social care placement, and weekly sessions in our state of the art sim room.
What will I study?
Throughout the diploma, you will develop key skills and knowledge necessary for working in various social care settings, such as residential care homes, community outreach programs, or disability services.
You will have two pathway options in year 2 – Health Care and Social Care.
These allow you to take a tailored approach to your career and select the best opportunities for progression.
Health Care pathway - Future career paths in the Healthcare sector. (For example, Nurse, paramedic, nursing assistant, medical practitioner)
Social Care Pathway - Future career paths in the Social Care sector. (for example, Social worker, care worker, residential warden)
Year 1 of this qualification will provide you with the theoretical and practical underpinnings for your chosen industry pathway in year 2.
Will be completing approx. 450 hrs placement
How will you be assessed?
We’ll assess your coursework (projects, assignments, and presentations) and your practical activities both in college and at your industry placement. There are also four exams over the two years.
There will be a two-week diagnostic period for all level 3 students, and you will be placed on the right course according to these results at that time.
Entry Requirements
T LEVELS:
- 5 GCSE’S at 5 or above, including English, Maths and Science (preferably Biology). A reference for placement would also be required, from a teacher or employer.
BTEC Level 3:
- 5 GCSE at 4 and above including Maths or English at a 4, 4 in science (preferably biology) If learner is resitting English or Maths, grade on entry must be a 3.
Additionally for all level 3
- Interest in working in the health and social care sector-social care clear DBS to allow for placement.
- If learner is a level 2 progressor with a distinction AND a level 4 English GCSE, can be accepted and study maths alongside

Uniform Information
Kit will be clarified during induction; we do not expect them to buy this before.
