Level 3
Art, A Level
Art A Level is your chance to dive into the creative world, explore new ways of making art, and develop the skills you need to express your ideas with confidence. This inspiring programme is perfect if you want to build a strong creative portfolio, experiment with different mediums, and take the first step towards an exciting future in the arts.
Course Overview
Throughout this course, you’ll explore a wide range of traditional and contemporary techniques, including drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, 3D work, graphics, new media, and creative software. You’ll experiment broadly before developing a personal direction that reflects your interests and artistic style.
You’ll study at our purpose-built Sixth Form at Loxton Campus, which offers modern, university-style studios and specialist equipment to support your creativity. You’ll be taught by industry-experienced lecturers who are passionate about helping you grow as an artist.
As part of our Career Excellence Hub, you’ll access exclusive opportunities such as employer-led projects, guest speaker sessions, and work experience in both Year 1 and Year 2. Our team will help you secure a placement that supports your future goals, or you can take part in a week of creative experiences within the College.
During your first year, you’ll work towards an AS qualification before progressing to the full A Level in Year 2. This structure gives you flexibility – many learners take four subjects in Year 1, then continue three to full A Level. AS Levels also carry UCAS points to support university progression.
You can also choose from specialist pathways, including creative, media, and young enterprise, which help you build additional skills linked to your future ambitions.
You’ll join trips to local and national galleries, take part in workshops, and explore the work of both historic and contemporary artists. You’ll learn in a lively, collaborative environment where you’ll share ideas, discuss creative concepts, and develop independent thinking.
