The Fashion and Textiles A Level is designed to develop your artistic skills and open doors to a creative career in the fashion industry. Throughout this programme, you will have the opportunity to explore a wide range of artistic processes and techniques specifically tailored to fashion and textiles, both traditional and experimental. Our comprehensive curriculum covers various areas of fashion and textiles, including fashion design, garment construction, textile printing, surface embellishment, fashion illustration, and creative software.

This subject will offer an exciting opportunity to embrace textile art, textile design, and elements of fashion, looking at the design industry from an artist’s perspective. It will introduce you to the contemporary approach of the industry and encourage you to flourish as a potential textile designer, looking at a variety of techniques.
You will also cover a printing unit, looking at techniques such as shibori and screen printing. You will combine your practical work with theory, research, and presentation skills, enabling you to develop fully as a budding designer or textile artist.

How will I be assessed?
Component 1 - personal investigation (60%) of qualification/120 marks. Component 2 - externally set assignment (40%) of qualification/80 marks.
Progression
This programme could lead to degree-level study, such as Weston College’s Art and Design UAL Foundation (pre-degree) or in BA (Hons) Art and Design at University Centre Weston.
Entry requirements
A minimum of five GCSEs at grade 9-4, including English and maths.
