Course Overview
The Level 2 UAL Diploma in Music Performance and Production has been designed to give you a broad understanding of music performance and production as a collaborative creative process. Combining practical performance with studio production, composition, and industry knowledge, this course provides an excellent foundation for progression to Level 3 study or a career in the creative industries.
You'll learn in industry-standard facilities while developing your technical, creative, and professional skills through practical projects, workshops, live performances, and recording sessions. Throughout the course you'll also gain valuable insight into how the music industry operates and build a portfolio of work that showcases your abilities.

What will I study?
Throughout the course you'll develop your practical, creative, and professional skills through:

• Practical workshops and theoretical learning

• Live performance opportunities
You'll complete four major creative projects during the year:
• I Feel Britty
• Crossroads
• Chip Off the Old Rock
• Encore
As part of each project, you'll create a professional website to showcase your work while continually developing your knowledge, skills, and behaviours within the performing arts sector.
Entry Requirements
• A minimum of five GCSEs at grades 9–2, including at least two at grade 4, or a qualifying Level 1 qualification
• Good English and maths skills are desirable. If you have not yet achieved grade 4, you'll continue to study English and/or maths alongside your main programme
• Some previous music experience is preferred, whether through instrumental performance, singing, or music production
• A passion for music, a positive attitude to learning, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team
• A good standard of written work to support practical projects
Additional Information
Recommended Equipment
Although not compulsory, the following equipment is recommended:
• Earbuds (moulded earbuds are recommended)
• Closed-back headphones
• Guitarists/Bassists – spare strings, picks, and a capo
• Drummers – drumsticks of your preferred gauge
• Vocalists – a suitable microphone
Trips and Industry Experiences
Throughout the year you'll have access to a wide range of industry experiences, including:
• Performing at Scare Fest at Puxton Park
• Residential trip to Nashville
• Visit to BBC Radio Cardiff
• Live performance opportunities at venues including Electric Banana (Weston-super-Mare), Ye Olde Inn (Bristol), and Front Room Open Mic Night (Weston-super-Mare)
• Workshops and talks from professional musicians, including songwriters, session musicians, and tour managers
• Opportunities to record a live album and collaborate on music video projects
What can I do after this course?
Successful completion of this course provides an excellent foundation to progress onto a Level 3 Music Performance and Production programme or other higher-level creative arts qualifications.
