This course is ideal if you have a passion for working on the stage. It will give you the skills and knowledge needed to pursue further studies and a performing arts career. The course has a strong emphasis on practical work so you will experience all aspects of performance and develop skills in acting, dancing, voice, singing, physical theatre and devising.
What will I study?
This course is ideal if you have a passion for working on the stage. It will give you the skills and knowledge needed to pursue further studies and a performing arts career. The course has a strong emphasis on practical work so you will experience all aspects of performance and develop skills in acting, dancing, voice, singing, physical theatre and devising.
How will you be assessed?
You will be assessed through six mandatory modules which demonstrate you have the knowledge and skills in performance in general and a further five to seven modules which allow you to demonstrate specific skills. Assessments are through a range of practical and theoretical assignments and for your final assessment you have the option to audition and perform for a full-scale production or participate in the production. Past productions have included:

- The Wonderful World of Dissocia by Anthony Neilson

- Little Shop of Horrors by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman
This course will provide you with a good foundation to move onto the Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in Performing Arts. Level 2 Performing Arts will provide you with a breadth of skills related to the industry. You will study acting, singing, dance, Musical Theatre and Physical Theatre, Professional Profile and Context.
Entry Requirements
- A minimum of five GCSEs at grade 9-2 with at least two at grade 4, or a qualifying Level 1 qualification
- Good English and Maths skills desirable. You will study English and Maths alongside your main programme if you have not yet achieved Grade 4
- Some prior experience in Performing Arts is preferred, but not essential
- A passion for Performing Arts and a desire to progress within the college (Level 3). Positive attitude to learning, ability to work individually or as part of a team
- Good standard of written / theory work which supports all practical projects

- Manchester Pro Excel World Record (25 students selected to participate in the World Record attempt: most backing dancers for a well-known music artist)

Timetable
- 5 days a week with intense practical training to represent industry standards
More Info
- Performing arts students, for all levels, need to be aware that there is very high, industry expectations, 95% attendance is compulsory, long days and long hours but incredibly rewarding
- The learner needs to have a big interest in a future in the industry and will be required to turn up to lessons on time due to the nature of collaborative working
